Requirements to Apply for Nigeria International Passport

Documents Required for Nigeria International Passport:

Submit only the essential documents to get your passport. Based on your age and your citizenship type, you may need to be required to submit additional documents. In the below subheadings, we have given a document list for each category.

Citizenship by Birth:

If you are a Nigerian citizen by birth, then you need the below documents.

Requirements for 18 years and above:

  1. Identification Letter: To apply for Nigeria international passport, you need to submit an identification letter. You can choose to submit any of the below as identification proof.
    • Letter of identification from the local government/state of origin or residence.
    • A National Identity Card.
    • For Nigerian citizens government employees, a letter of introduction stating Service Number, Length of Service, and Designation/Rank. A valid employee identification card must accompany this letter.
  2. Nigeria Passport Application Form: Your completed passport application form with two passport-sized photographs. Please note your passport photo should be endorsed by a Guarantor in the back.
  3. Guarantor’s form: You must also submit a Guarantor’s form signed by an Oath Commissioner, a photocopy of the Guarantor’s Nigerian e-passport data page, and one passport-sized photograph of the Guarantor.
  4. Marriage Certificate: Marriage Certification if applicable.
  5. Age Proof: You can submit any one of the below certificates as an age proof
    • Your Birth Certificate issued by the National Population Commission.
    • If your birth date is after Dec 1992, then you need an age declaration. Your age declaration certificate should have one passport-sized photograph and be duly endorsed by a Commissioner for Oaths.
  6. Payment Proof: Evidence of payment and acknowledgment slip.

To get a new enhanced e-passport, you need NIN National Identification Number. NIN is a mandatory requirement for an international passport in Nigeria. And all types of the applicant need NIN to get the enhanced new e-passport.

Requirements for Minor Under 18 years:

For Minor children, the Nigerian federal government needs few documents from their parents. Those are mentioned below. If you are a minor or applying for a minor applicant, you need to submit the below documents.

  1. Nigeria Passport Application Form: Completed passport application form of Minor with one passport-sized photograph. Please note that parent/s should endorse minor passport photos.
  2. Citizenship Proof of Parent/s: Parent/s Citizenship Proof. Along with the application, you need to submit the parent/s Nigeria citizenship proof.
  3. Certificate of Birth: Birth certificate issued by The National Population Commission for minors within Nigeria.
  4. Letter of Consent: Minor should submit the letter of consent from either parent/s.
  5. Payment Proof: Evidence of payment and acknowledgment slip.

Citizenship by Naturalization:

Citizen by naturalization needs a different set of documents. Check it out below,

  • Naturalization certificate duly issued by the Federal Republic of Nigeria President.
  • Two passport-sized photographs and a completed passport application form (passport photographs endorsed at the back by the Guarantor).
  • A completed and duly signed Guarantor’s form. You must also submit a Guarantor’s form signed by an Oath Commissioner, a photocopy of the Guarantor’s Nigerian e-passport data page, and one passport-sized photograph of the Guarantor.
  • Certificate of Marriage (if applicable).
  • As proof of age, present a birth certificate or the data page of a previous passport.
  • Evidence of payment and acknowledgment slip.

Citizenship by Registration:

Citizen by Registration will need the below set of documents,

  • The Federal Republic of Nigeria, the President, duly issued a Certificate of Registration.
  • Two passport-sized photographs and a completed passport application form (passport photographs endorsed at the back by the Guarantor).
  • A completed and signed Guarantor’s form. Guarantor’s form: You must also submit a Guarantor’s form signed by an Oath Commissioner, a photocopy of the Guarantor’s Nigerian e-passport data page, and one passport-sized photograph of the Guarantor.
  • Certificate of Marriage (if applicable.)
  • As proof of age, present a birth certificate or the data page of a previous passport.
  • Evidence of payment and acknowledgment slip.

The Fee to Apply for Nigeria International Passport:

Three types of passports are available for  adults above the age of 18. An adult can apply for 32 pages passport with 5-year validity or 64 pages with 5-year validity, or 64 pages with a 10-year validity period.

Minors below 18 cannot apply for 64 pages passport with a 10-year validity period. Based on ICAO specifications and the expected change in their physical appearance, 10-year validity passports are not issued to minors under 18.
