Passport Requirements based on Malaysia visa policy

All travelers except the following require a passport:

1. Travellers with a Certificate of Identity issued to citizens of Malaysia.

2. Travelers given by the United Nations with a ‘Laissez-passer.’

3. Travellers with travel documents known as ‘Titre de Voyage’ issued by the United Nations.

4. Travellers with a pilgrim pass issued by the government of Malaysia.

5. Travellers with a Seaman Book issued to Italian citizens provided they have a letter of guarantee from a shipping agent in Malaysia, stating that merchant seamen will join the ship directly on Malaysia’s arrival.

6. Travellers with a Seaman Book issued to citizens of Malaysia.

7. Travellers with ‘Kinderausweis,’ a German identity document issued to children aged less than 16.

8. Travellers with an Identity Document issued by Hong Kong (A Special Administrative Region of China).

9. Travellers with a national passport held by citizens of Indonesia.

10. Travellers with a Singapore-issued identification certificate.

11. Travellers with a certificate of identity issued by Portugal.

12. Travellers with a travel permit issued by Macao (A Special Administrative Region of China).

13. Travellers with travel documents issued by the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo to Kosovo’s permanent inhabitants.

Document Validity

Passports and alternative papers, or either of them, must be valid for at least six months on the date of arrival.

a. Citizens of Malaysia may enter with passports or alternative documents that are valid on arrival.

b. Residents of Malaysia may enter with travel documents valid on arrival.

Additional Information about Malaysia visa policy

Entry is denied to foreign women in late pregnancy (six months or more except if they are in transit for no more than 72 hours; extension is not allowed).

Minors

Children aged 15 years old and younger may be added to an adult’s passport in their company.

Malaysia visa policy Visa Issuance process

1. Before arrival: Travellers are kindly requested to contact the nearest representation of Malaysia and be aware about the Malaysia visa policy.

2. On arrival: A visa is issued if necessary, against a fee of MYR 331 (payable in local currency only) to travelers staying for no more than 14 days for social or touristic purposes provided they have confirmed return or onward tickets and all necessary documents for their next trip; no extension is possible. Passports must contain at least two blank pages for visa and stamping.

2.1. A visa is available to citizens of Bangladesh, Bhutan, People’s Republic of China, Myanmar, and Nepal.

2.2. A visa is available to travelers with Chinese Taipei passports.

N.B.

This facility only applies at the following airports:

– Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI); or

– Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL); or

– Kuching International Airport (KCH); or

– Langkawi International Airport (LGK); or

– Penang International Airport (PEN); or

– Senai International Airport (JHB).

Travelers must have a sponsor in Malaysia, such as an organization or a registered travel agent, and must provide Malaysia’s address.

3. On arrival: A transit visa is issued if necessary, free of charge to travelers staying for no more than 120 hours (No extension is possible) provided travelers:

– arrive and depart from the same place, not through any other place; and

– have confirmed onward tickets to a third country and all necessary documents for their next trip; and

– have passports containing no less than two blank pages for a visa stamping; and

– are accompanied by staff of the transporting carrier to the immigration counter upon arrival.

3.1. A visa is available to citizens of Bhutan, People’s Republic of China, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

3.2. A visa is available to travelers with Chinese Taipei passports.

N.B.

This facility only applies at the following airports:

– Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI); or

– Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL); or

– Kuching International Airport (KCH); or

– Langkawi International Airport (LGK); or

Visa Exemptions

Malaysia’s visa policy is a set of regulations that determines the requirements for visa exemptions

All travelers must hold a visa except the following:

1. Citizens of Malaysia.

2. Travellers staying for no more than three months provided they are citizens of Albania, Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria,

 Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jordon, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg

Malta, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zeeland, Norway, Oman, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, the United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, the United States of America, Yemen Republic

3. Travellers staying for no more than three months provided they have British passports regardless of endorsement concerning their citizenship.

4. Travellers staying for no more than two months provided they are citizens of Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Canada, Dominican Republic, Dominica, Gambia, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho

Malawi, Maldives, Mauritius, Namibia, Nauru, Papa New Guinea, Samoa, Seychelles, Solomon Islands, St Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the grenadines, Switzerland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

5. Travellers staying for no more than one month provided they are citizens of Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Benin, Bolivia, Brunei, Cambodia, Cape Verde Islands, Chad, Chile, Comoro Islands, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia

 Fiji, Gabon, Georgia, Guatemala, Guinea, Haiti, Honduras, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Laos, Libya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mexico, Republic of Moldova, Monaco, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Palau Islands, Panama, Paraguay, Philippines, Russian Federation, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Somalia, Sudan, Suriname, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor Lest, Togo, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vatican City, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

6. Travellers stay for no more than one month provided they are citizens of Indonesia. However, a visa must be obtained before arrival if they have a national passport;

7. Citizens of the Philippines with diplomatic or special passports provided they are traveling on business;

8. Travellers with diplomatic or service passports provided they are citizens of Thailand;

9. Travellers staying for no more than 14 days provided they are citizens of the People’s Republic of China with passports or travel permits issued by Macao (A Special Administrative Region of China);

10. Travellers staying for no more than one month provided they are citizens of the People’s Republic of China with passports issued by Hong Kong (A Special Administrative Region of China);

11. Travellers staying for no more than 14 days provided they have a Portuguese certificate of identity.

12. Travellers staying for no more than three months provided they are India’s citizens with diplomatic and official passports.

13. Travellers with a pilgrim pass issued by the government of Malaysia.

14. Travellers with a re-entry permit for permanent residents provided they have a red I.D. card and travelers with a work re-entry permit for residents re-entering for work.

15. Travellers with a business travel card issued by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation. The back of the card must state that it is valid for travel to Malaysia. Upon arrival, a visit pass will be issued.

TWOV (Transit Without Visa)

1. TWOV is permissible for travelers continuing their trip within 120 hours to a third country provided they have confirmed onward tickets, a confirmed hotel reservation, and enough money. Leaving the transit area is allowed.

1.1. Citizens of Bangladesh, Israel, Republic of Montenegro, and Serbia are allowed to transit to a third country. They are departing on the same day and do not leave the airport transit area.

2. This does not apply to refugees and people without nationality or citizenship.

Additional Information

1. Foreign citizens who have formerly worked in Malaysia and whose former work visa is endorsed ‘COM’ will not be allowed to return to work in Malaysia for six months. In case they plan to return for a social visit, they will be interviewed on arrival and will not always be allowed to enter.

2. Travellers must have enough money (at least USD 500) as well as:

2.1. Onward or return tickets; or

2.2. Confirmed return or onward tickets if they are citizens of Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde Islands, The Republic of Central Africa, Chad, Comoros Islands, Congo (Kinshasa), Congo (Brazzaville), Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Djibouti, Equatorial, Eritrea, Guinea, Gabon, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Ghana

 Kenya, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Lesotho, Madagascar, Libya, Mali, Malawi, Mauritius, Mauritania, Mozambique, Morocco, Niger, Namibia, Reunion, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Rwanda, Seychelles, Senegal, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Sudan, South Africa, Tanzania, Switzerland, Tunisia, Togo, Zambia, Uganda, Zimbabwe.

2.3. Travellers without onward or return tickets will be asked to buy one.

3. Citizens of Colombia can only enter Malaysia via Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

4. Travellers with Chinese Taipei passports are required to have an ‘IMM 108C’ form.

5. Due to the outbreak of swine flu (H1N1), all international travelers and crew, except those on international transit, must fill in a health declaration form handed over by the airlines during the flight.

Warnings

Travelers who do not respect entry regulations or who arrive with an invalid passport or travel documents will be deported to their home country at the expense of the transporting carrier.

CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE

Import Regulations

1. Travellers are allowed free import of:

– 225 grams of tobacco, or 200 cigarettes;

– No more than one liter of wine, alcoholic drinks, or malt liquor;

– A maximum of one pair of new shoes; three pieces of new clothes; one portable electrical or battery-run appliance for personal care and hygiene;

– Up to a value of no more than MYR 75 of dutiable food preparations;

– Souvenirs and gifts with a cumulative value of up to max. MYR 400; yet, goods bought from Langkawi and Labuan are allowed up to a total value of no more than MYR 500.

N.B.

Trading in illegal drugs is a severe crime in Malaysia whose penalty is death.

– The items, as mentioned above, can only be imported duty-free if the following conditions are met:

– The goods are imported by travelers personally or in their luggage.

– Non-residents staying in Malaysia for more than 72 hours;

– Citizens and residents of Malaysia have left the country for more than 72 hours.

2. Prohibited Goods

– All goods brought from Israel and South Africa;

– Any object bearing an imprint or copy of any currency note, banknote, or coin that is in current use or that has been issued in any country at any time.

Export Regulations

Travelers are allowed to free export of moderate amounts of tobacco products and alcoholic drinks.

Pets

To bring in pets, they should not be less than three months old, and the following are required:

– A health certificate issued seven days before shipment, stating that no rabies case has occurred in the exporting country during the previous six months and that the animal has not been imported to the home country;

– A landing permit;

– Microchip;

– Anti-rabies vaccination certificate;

– An import permit obtainable from the Malaysian Veterinary Department. Email address: pro@dvs.gov.my. 

Cats and dogs are placed in quarantine for 30 days or more except if they are coming from Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Japan, New Zealand, Great Britain, or Ireland. Airports at the exporting countries must send a telex to inform the station manager of the transporting carrier at the place of arrival of the flight number

The origin and destination of the pets, and their types and numbers. Animals subject to quarantine must have a room reserved in advance at the Quarantine Station in Kuala Lumpur.

Baggage Clearance Regulations

A traveler’s luggage should be cleared at the airport of final destination in Malaysia, provided it is labeled to that destination.

* Exemptions:

a. Luggage of transit travelers whose destination is inside/outside Malaysia if

– transit between the KLIA terminal and the KLIA2 terminal in Kuala Lumpur (KUL). Upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur (KUL), passengers must collect their luggage and check-in again;

– a separate reservation is booked on the connecting flight. For the connecting flight, luggage must be collected and checked in again;

b. Baggage of transit passengers whose destination is outside Malaysia, unless they exit the airport’s transit area and if their baggage has been checked at the destination abroad.

Airport Tax

Upon boarding at the airport, no airport tax is levied on passengers.
