Introduction

A Schengen visa is a short-stay visa that enables a visitor to travel to any member of the Schengen area for stays of up to 90 days for tourist or business-related work. The Schengen visa is the most prevalent visa in Europe. It enables its holder to enter, travel freely within, and leave the Schengen area from any of the Schengen Member States. There are no border barriers in the Schengen area. However, if you plan to study or visit one of the Schengen nations for more than 90 days, you must apply for a national visa from that European country and not for a Schengen visa. More than 15 million people used their Schengen visa to travel around Europe in 2019. Most people believe that a Schengen visa type is only for the Schengen area. Yes, it is, of course. But many non-Schengen countries in Europe also honor Schengen visas as their own.

Why do non-Schengen countries honor Schengen visas?

There are many reasons why non-Schengen countries honor Schengen visas –

Reason 1: Countries that are soon to be included in the Schengen Agreement Countries that are in the process of joining the Schengen area have already begun to pay Schengen visas. Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, and Cyprus are currently in the process of joining the Schengen area.

Reason 2: Countries that trust the Schengen visa screening process Applicants for Schengen visas are thoroughly screened for their strong ties with their home countries. Countries simply trust the Schengen visa screening process.

Reason 3: countries without infrastructure, technology, or resources. Countries may not have the necessary infrastructure, technology, or resources to screen applicants as thoroughly as Schengen visas.
