When a foreign national seeks to move to Canada, they want to know the Canada visa processing time. Each type of visa has a different processing time, and each one has a different application process.
The Following points determine the Canada visa processing time.
- Visa application type
- Country of residence of the applicants
- Any application correctness
- How easily the information of the applicants can be verified
- How quickly the IRCC can execute applications already on the system
- It Depends on the time the applicant takes to respond to additional requests or concerns.
Express Entry Canada visa processing time
6 months
The Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades (FST), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and several Provincial Nominee Programs are all part of the Express Entry Program (PNP).
Most quick entry applications will be processed within six months from the date of receipt. Before the six-month processing time begins, the applicant must provide all required documents and upload them to their personal Express entry profile.

13-27 days
It only takes 13 days to apply for a new PR card, while it takes about 27 days to renew or replace it.
Processing Time for Work Permit
1-27 weeks
Canadian work permit processing time has the largest limit. Work permit processing time depends on your application and the office in which you applied. We found that processing a Canadian work permit can take 1-27 weeks.
LMIA Processing Time
8-29 days
Canada will experience high levels of LMIA applications in 2021, resulting in longer processing times and potential delays, especially in temporary overseas labour planning. Depending on which LMIA you are applying for, it can take anywhere from 8-29 business days to process your application.
Study Permit processing time
1-16 weeks
Canadian study permit processing times and work permits often depend on the applicant’s country of residence.
Canadian Citizenship Processing Time

The average processing period for a Canadian Citizenship grant is 12 months/1 year. This means that it should take around a year from the time you submit your completed application to the time it is fully processed.
Canadian Visitor Visa Processing Time

As with work visas and study permits, visitor visa processing time depends on the applicant’s country. Generally, Canada Visa processing time can vary from a couple of days to a few weeks. Processing time is 12 days only if you apply from within Canada.

A spousal sponsorship takes about 12 months to process on average. It might be as short as six months or as long as 36 months, depending on the circumstances and region.
Will the processing time be updated frequently?
Most processing times show how long it took to process applications in the past and are updated weekly.
These permanent residency plans estimate the processing time for new applications and are updated monthly:
- Sponsoring a parent or grandparent
- Economic immigration
- Provincial Nominees (excluding Express Entry)
- Skilled Workers (Quebec)
- Start-up visa
- Humanitarian and compassionate cases
The programmes listed below demonstrate commitment and are updated as new commitments are made:

- Electronic travel authorization (eTA)
- International Experience Canada (IEC)
- Atlantic Immigration Pilot
- Federal Skilled Trades

- Canadian Experience Class

- Sponsoring a spouse or a common-law or conjugal partner
When was the last time IRCC revised its processing time forecasts?
Throughout 2020-2021, various visa processing dates have been altered as a result of COVID-19. This does not account for any changes in processing times that occurred during that time*. IRCC chose to estimate processing times based on the number of applications presently being handled rather than historical processing time data in July 2018.
Because of the changes to the processing time estimation system, the following immigration categories have changed:
- Sponsoring of a parent or grandparent
- Economic
immigration
- Provincial Nominees (excluding Express Entry)
- Skilled Workers (Quebec)
- Start-up visa
- Humanitarian and compassionate cases
How long does it take to get a Canadian passport?
A passport application’s processing time is governed by where and how it is submitted, as well as the urgency of the request.
For applications submitted outside of Canada, the processing time is 20 business days.
Other than standard processing time, urgent and express pick-up service available
- Urgent pick-up time: Within the next business day ends
- Express: 2 to 9 days
This does not include the time it takes to mail the package. Passports are printed in Canada, and the time it takes to receive them varies by region. As a result, you should allow yourself extra time when applying.
You can also check your passport application status online. You can check your application status after 20 days only.
