Business travelers from 170 countries can currently apply for an e-visa. This e-business visa allows the traveler to visit India for business activities in the short term. Travelers who use the e-visa business system apply, pay an online fee and obtain their electronic visa via email before traveling to India.  

Ways to get an e-business visa to India

The Republic of India's government provides an e-business visa to India to non-Indian people wishing to visit India for short-term business activities. This facility is not available if the person or his or her parents or grandparents (paternal or maternal) were born in Pakistan or were permanently a resident in Pakistan.

Applicants from qualified countries can apply for an e-business visa to India online at least four days before arrival. 

The validity of an e-business visa to India shall be one year (365 days) from the date of the e-visa grant. This visa can be used for multiple entries within the time limit indicated. 

A foreigner with an e-business visa to India can continuously stay up to 180 days during each visit. If the intention is to stay for more than 180 days, the FRRO/FRO concerned shall be registered within two weeks after the 180-day expiry.

Passport should have a validity period of at least six months when applying for an e-business visa to India and a re-entry permit. An immigration officer could stamp your visa at the point of entry. All passports should have at least two blank pages for stamping. Entry into India on the new passport would be allowed even if e-visa has been issued on the old passport, but in these cases, the applicants must hold the old passport on which an e-visa was issued. 

Documents required for an e-business visa to India:

  1. Scanned bio page of the passport showing the photograph and personal details of the applicant.
  2. Business card copy with the details about the Indian organization with which you wish to conduct the business.

Individuals holding e-business visa to India are only allowed to enter India through below designated international ports namely,

  • Ahmedabad international airport, Amritsar international airport, Bagdogra international airport, Bangalore international airport, Bhubaneshwar international airport, Calicut international airport, Chandigarh and international airport, Chennai international airport,
  • Cochin international airport, Coimbatore international airport, Delhi international airport, Gaya international airport, Goa international airport, Guwahati , international airport, Hyderabad international airport, Jaipur international airport, Kolkata international airport,
  • Lucknow international airport, Madurai international airport, Mangalore international airport, Mumbai international airport, Nagpur international airport, Port Blair international airport, Pune international airport, Trichy international airport, Trivandrum international airport,
  • Varanasi international airport and Visakhapatnam international airport.

In addition to the above international airports, five major Indian seaports also provide entry for an e-business visa to India holders:

  • Chennai seaport, Cochin seaport, and Mormugao Mumbai seaport, and New Mangalore seaport.

The applicant can depart from any of the Indian Immigration check posts.  

No, an e-business visa to India must be obtained by all travelers before they initiate their travel to India. 

During the entry to India, the traveler needs to display a copy of the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) with the immigration authorities. Confirm that your ETA status is displayed on https:/indianvisaonline.gov.in/e-visa/Status Enquiry as "GRANTED" before attempting to enter the country. Immigration officers would take biometric details of the applicant upon their arrival in India.

Foreign visitors with a passport from a qualified country can apply for an e-business visa to India irrespective of where they currently reside.

No. Applicants with laissez-passer/international travel documents cannot apply for an e-business visa to India. And also, it is not available to diplomatic/official passport holders and persons endorsed on the parent's/spouse's passport. Each traveler should have a separate eligible passport to apply e-visa. 

No. The applicant will be granted an electronic visa that does not require stamped before traveling to India. Upon approval of the e-business visa to India, applicants will receive their visa to their registered email address.
