Can I travel on a Cruise with an ETA?

Visitors to Canada can enjoy a variety of cruises. Many sail along the Canadian coast and call at ports in nearby Greenland or the United States.

The type of cruise, especially the point of embarkation, significantly impacts whether the eTA is required.

Passengers will not need a Canada eTA for a cruise if the following conditions are met:

  • Before embarking on the cruise, the passenger enters Canada by land or sea.
  • The cruise departs from the United States, and the traveler must first fly to the United States.
  • The passenger is on a transatlantic cruise to Canada and arrives by ship.

Can I extend or renew my ETA or apply for a new one after entering Canada?

The Canadian electronic travel authorization, also known as eTA Canada, is a requirement for visiting Canada. The Canadian eTA is required for visa-exempt citizens, excluding holders of U.S. passports. The Canada eTA is valid for five years, beginning with the date of approval and ending when the passport expires, whichever comes first.

You can renew your Canada ETA if you fall under any one of the below criteria:

  • Your Canada ETA is expired.
  • Your Canada ETA is still valid, but your passport expired
  • Renounced citizenship

Can I convert my Evisa to any other Visa?

No, Evisa is non-convertible.

I got a new passport, but my E-visa was on my old passport, and it is still valid. How can I proceed now?

You may be allowed entry into Canada on the new passport even if an ETA has been issued on the old Travel document with the condition that you must carry the new Travel document and old Travel document on which ETA was issued.

Canada always invites U.S. citizens’ visa-free entry without the Canada ETA. So “Be Quick, and Enjoy your Trip.”
