IMMIGRATION AND VISAS

Passport Requirements

All travelers except the following require a passport:

1. Travellers with an «Laissez Passer» that is issued by the European Union.

2. Travellers with an «Laissez Passer» which is issued by the United Nations.

3. Travellers with an «Seaman Book» so long as they are traveling on duty.

4. People without citizenship or nationality and refugees with official records.

5. Ukrainian citizens with a return certificate to Ukraine.

6. Travellers with «Kinderausweis» a German identity document issued to children aged less than 16 years old.

Document Validity

Passports and alternative papers, or either of them, have to be valid on the day of arrival.

a. Ukrainian citizens may enter with Expired passports.

Before arrival: Visitors are kindly requested to contact Ukraine’s nearest representation.

Visa Exemptions based on Ukraine visa policy

All travelers must hold a visa except the following:

1. Ukrainian citizens.

2. Iranian citizens with service or diplomatic passports, staying for thirty days or lesser.

3. Cuban citizens with:

3.1. Ordinary passports, traveling for medical care purposes only, and retaining documentation thereof.

3.2. Service, official or diplomatic passports.

4. Citizens of Mongolia, Republic of Montenegro, and the Republic of Serbia so long as they are:

4.1. traveling on duty and holding governmental duty passports.

4.2. With ordinary passports containing an annotation that confirms duty purposes.

4.3. traveling for tourism and holding proof of this.

4.4. traveling for private purposes and holding an authorized invitation from Ukraine.

5. Travellers with an «Laissez Passer» which is issued by the United Nations, provided they are traveling on duty.

6. Travellers staying for no more than 90 days provided they are:

6.1. Citizens of Albania, Argentina, Bosnia Herzegovina, Brazil, People’s Republic of China, Croatia, and Turkmenistan holding diplomatic or service passports.

6.2. Citizens of Peru or Turkey with special, service, or diplomatic passports.

6.3. Vietnamese citizens with diplomatic, official, or service passports.

6.4. Israeli citizens or Mexican citizens who have diplomatic passports.

6.5. Citizens of Austria, Andorra, Bulgaria, Belgium, Cyprus, Canada, Denmark, Czech Republic, Finland, Estonia, Germany, France, Hungary, Greece, Republic of Ireland, Iceland, Japan, Italy, Latvia, Republic of Korea, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Malta, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Monaco, Poland, Norway, Romania, Portugal, Slovak Republic, San Marino, Spain, Slovenia, Switzerland, Sweden, Vatican City, and the United States of America.

6.6. Travellers with British passports endorsed ‘British Citizen.’

6.7. Citizens of the European Union member states with an «Laissez Passer» which is issued by the European Union, including Commission of the European Union.

7. Chilean citizens with diplomatic or official passports.

8. Foreign residents with a re-entry or residence permit which is issued by Ukraine.

9. Citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

TWOV (Transit Without Visa)

TWOV is permissible for travelers continuing their trip by the first connecting plane towards a third country within 24 hours, holding all necessary documents for their next trip and confirmed onward tickets, without leaving the airport transit area.

N.B.

TWOV facility is applicable only through Kyiv.

Additional information

1. All travelers with a transit visa must have all papers required for their next trip and onward tickets.

2. Travelers are highly recommended to obtain a transit visa before arrival if necessary, as facilities are limited in the transit area of the airport.

3. Travellers with special, official, or service passports must produce documents affirming the purposes of travel.

4. Travellers are allowed to stay for no more than 90 days Within 180 days provided they are citizens of the European Economic Area member states, Andorra, Japan, Canada, Monaco, Republic of Korea, Switzerland, San Marino, Vatican City, and the United States of America.

5. Travellers of any nationality are strongly advised to have return tickets upon their arrival in Ukraine.

6. All travelers entering Ukraine have to fill in an immigration card on arrival. The card must be submitted along with the passport when entering and leaving the country.

7. Travellers may be required to show an authorized invitation from an official sponsor in Ukraine.

* Exemptions:

7.1. Citizens of European Economic Area member states, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Moldova, Monaco, Russia, San Marino, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Ukraine, United States A, Uzbekistan and Vatican City.

7.2. Citizens of the European Union with a ‘Laissez-Passer’ issued by the European Union, including the European Union Commission.

7.3. Diplomatists with passports.

Warnings

Suppose travelers do not abide by entry or transit rules. In that case, they will be subject to payment of fines ranging between USD 700 and USD 800 for the transporting carrier and deportation of the traveler by the same carrier on the first available flight.

CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE

Import regulations

There are no restrictions on importing:
– one liter of alcoholic drinks and 2 liters of wine.
– 250 grams of tobacco products, 200 cigarettes, or 50 cigars (for travelers older than 18 years).
– Objects for personal use.
– Articles up to a value of EUR 200 or its equivalent.
– Food products up to a value of EUR 50 or its equivalent.
– Medicines for personal use, along with prescription and medical certificates.
* Prohibited Goods:
– items which can be dangerous to the health of population or environment;
– products containing the propaganda of war, racism, race discrimination or genocide and pornography;
– restricted goods and personal items without a permit (cultural values, guns, medicines);
– agricultural products (except for food items).

Export regulations

There are no restrictions on exporting:
– Objects bought in Ukraine with a total value not more than EUR 200.
– Goods that are declared for re-export.
* Further Information:
1. Written declaration necessary for the export of stones and precious metals up to a worth of EUR 200. Required export permits for higher values.
2. The following items are prohibited:
– raw metals, its alloys, rawhides, cermets, brassware, timber, waste, and scrap.
– items of cultural value.

Pets

Import of cats, dogs, and birds, except for pigeons, requires an official certificate of veterinary health stamped with the seal of a state veterinarian institute in the home country; this certificate must NOT be issued more than ten days before arrival.
Prohibited Pets:
– Pigeons.
– Dogs and cats are aged less than three months old.

Baggage Clearance Regulations

Baggage is much cleared at the first airport of the entry in Ukraine. Passengers are in transit to a domestic destination, carrying goods subject to customs clearance, reclaim their baggage, pass through customs, and check-in their baggage for the connecting flight. Passengers who do not carry on goods subject to customs clearance can have their baggage, which through-checked to the final destination.

Airport tax

No airport tax is much levied on the passengers upon the embarkation at the airport.

Currency Import regulations

Local currency (UAH-Ukrainian Hryvnia) and foreign currency: up to EUR 10,000 or equivalent does not require declaration. Exceeding sums have to be stated. A document is required concerning the withdrawal of cash from banking accounts. Metals from banking: max. Five hundred grams in the form of coins and ingots bearing a written customs declaration.

Currency Export regulations

Local currency (Ukrainian Hryvnia-UAH) and foreign currencies: up to EUR 10,000.- or equivalent without a declaration. For that exceeding amounts, customs declaration and a document on the withdrawal of the cash from the financial establishment is much required.
Banking metals: max. Five hundred grams in the shape of ingots and coins with a written declaration for the customs authorities. License required for exceeding weight. The customs declaration is grounds for the export of declared currency within one year from the declaration’s registration.

Additional information:

– Written declaration required for the export of precious metals and stones up to the value of EUR 200.-. Export permits are required for higher values.
– Restrictions apply for the export of cultural values.
Prohibited: raw hides, unworked feathers suitable for packing, raw metals, their alloys, waste, and the scrap, cermets, timber, brassware.
