IMMIGRATION AND VISAS
Passport Requirements
All travelers need passport/travel passports, except the following:
A traveler with official documents/travel passports such as ‘Laissez Passer’ issued by the United Nations.
Document Validity
Passports/travel passports and alternative papers, or either of them, must be valid on arrival.
Visa Issuance
1. before arrival: Travelers are kindly requested to contact the nearest embassy or consulate (representation) of Tajikistan.
2. upon arrival: A visa will be issued to travelers/visitors with British passports/travel documents that are endorsed ‘British Citizen’ staying for more than 45 days. Invitation letters showing the purpose of the visit are required, or in the case of tourists, they must be traveling with certified tour operators who are licensed to operate in Tajikistan.
Two passport photos (35 mm x 45 mm) are required. Fees vary according to the visa type and the length of stay
3. On arrival: A visa can be issued to travelers staying for more than 45 days provided they are citizens:
Argentina, Australia, Algeria, Bahrain, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Brazil, Bulgaria, People’s Republic of China, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Egypt, France, Greece, Hungary, Germany, Iceland, Indonesia, India, Republic of Ireland, Israel, Italy, Iran, Jordan, Republic of Korea, Japan, Latvia, Kuwait.
Lebanon, Lithuania, Libya, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Malaysia, Netherlands, Morocco, New Zealand, Oman, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Qatar, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, South Africa, Sweden, Thailand, Syria, Tunisia, The United Arab Emirates, Turkey, United States of America and Vietnam.
Visa Exemptions
All travelers/visitors must hold a visa except the following:
1. Tajikistani citizens.
2. Citizens of Iran and Turkmenistan with diplomatic passports or service passports, staying for no more than 30 days.
3. Citizens of the People’s Republic of China with diplomatic passports or service passports, staying for no more than 30 days.
4. Citizens of the People’s Republic of China with normal passports/travel documents that are endorsed ‘service,’ staying for no more than 30 days.
5. Citizens of Hungary and Romania with diplomatic passports or service passports, staying for no more than three months.
6. Uzbekistani citizens with diplomatic travel documents.
7. Citizens of Belarus, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Republic of Moldova, and Russia.
8. Indian citizens with diplomatic passports or service passports, staying for no more than 90 days.
9. Foreign residents with a re-entry or residence permit that is issued by Tajikistan.
10. Travelers staying for no more than three months provided they are Mongolian citizens.
11. Travelers staying for no more than 90 days provided they are Ukrainian citizens.
12. Citizens of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea with diplomatic passports or service passports.
13. Afghani citizens with diplomatic passports/travel documents, staying for no more than 30 days.
TWOV (Transit without Visa)
The TWOV (Transit without Visa) facility is not applicable because a transit visa is required.
Additional Information
1. It is necessary for all travelers/visitors to register with the authorities within three working days of arrival in Tajikistan
Exemptions:
Children aged less than 16 years old;
Heads of state and legislature, members of parliament who are invited to Tajikistan;
Travelers/visitors with a ‘Laissez Passer’ which is issued by the United Nations (UN).
For travelers/visitors who would like to visit the regions within the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO), it is necessary to obtain special GBAO permits.
CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE
Import regulations
Items below by persons 18 years of age and older
- 2 cartons of cigarettes/2 cartons of cigars/2 cartons of tobacco products
- 2L of alcoholic drinks/beverages
For all other travelers
- 100ml of perfume for personal use
- Limited to 1 piece of each product, personal effects
Crew member’s customs regulations
For crew members, the same rules apply as for normal travelers/visitors.
Pets
Cats and dogs must be accompanied by a veterinary certificate of good health and have a medical certificate of vaccination against rabies issued in the home country.
Baggage Clearance regulations
A traveler’s luggage should be cleared at the first airport of entry in Tajikistan.
Airport tax
Upon boarding at the airport, no airport tax is levied on passengers.
Currency Import regulations
- For Tajikistani Nationals and Residents: max. 10,000 USD (or equivalent). Upon arrival, amounts greater than USD 3,000.- must be declared.
- For other nationals/citizens: max. 3,000 USD.- (or equivalent).
Currency Export regulations
- For Tajikistani Nationals and Residents: max. 10,000 USD.- (or equivalent). Amounts greater than USD 3,000.- must be declared upon arrival.
- For other nationals/citizens: max. 3,000 USD.- (or equivalent).
Arms and Ammunition regulations:
In order to import weapons and ammunition as checked luggage, permission from the customs authorities is required.
