A Complete Guide Visa for Slovenia

IMMIGRATION AND VISAS

Passport Requirements:-

All travelers need a visa, with the exception of the following:

1. Citizens of Croatia, San Marino, Switzerland, and European Economic Area member states except for Denmark, Iceland, Republic of Ireland, Norway, and the United Kingdom, who have a national identity card.

2. Refugees and people without nationality or citizenship with travel papers if they have a re-entry permit for the country of residence.

3. ‘Kinderausweis’ passengers, a German identification document was given to children less than 16 years of age.

4. Travelers with residence permits and travel papers that are issued by a European Union member state to recognized refugees and people without nationality or citizenship.

5. Travelers with travel documents given to the permanent inhabitants of Kosovo by the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo.

6. Slovenian citizens with a national identity card.

7. Travelers with a ‘Laissez-Passer,’ provided they travel on duty, which is given by the United Nations.

8. Residents of Gibraltar having Gibraltar Identity Cards.

9. Travelers with a Seaman Book so long as they are traveling on duty.

Document Validity:-

Passports and alternative papers, or either of them, must be valid for at least for the period of the intended visit.

• Slovenian citizens may enter with passports and alternative papers, or either of them, that are valid on the day of arrival.
• Expired passports for no more than one year issued to German citizens are accepted.
• Residents of Slovenia may enter with travel papers that must be valid upon arrival.
• Expired passports issued to residents of Austria, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland for a term of no more than five years are approved.

Additional Information:-

1. Students living in a Member State of the European Union, Liechtenstein, or Switzerland and traveling as part of a school community from within the European Union, Liechtenstein or Switzerland, aside from their nationality, do not require a visa, except that:

• Their names are listed on a ‘List of Travelers’ stamped by the school and accredited in their home country by the authority in concern.
• One of the teachers at that school accompanies the school party.
• This ‘List of Travelers’ must contain a photo of the student.
• Not all European Union member countries issue this type of ‘List of Travelers’. Furthermore, the exception would NOT extend to the ‘List of Passengers’ and is only stamped without photographs by the school.

2. All Slovenian passports with a blue cover, regardless of their date of validity, are not valid for travel. They have been exchanged for new red cover passports.

Visa Issuance:-

Before arrival: Travelers are kindly requested to contact the nearest representation of Slovenia.

Visa Exemptions:-

All travelers must hold a visa except the following:

1. Slovenian citizens.

2. South African citizens with service or diplomatic passports staying for no more than 120 days.

3. Travelers, irrespective of their nationality, residing for a time not exceeding five days in Liechtenstein and carrying evidence of their residency, provided that they are in transit through the Schengen Area and begin their journey to a country outside the Schengen Area other than the means of transport.

4. Travelers who stay no longer than 90 days, given that they are:

• Travelers with British passports that are endorsed ‘British National (Overseas)
• Citizens of Bolivia, Bosnia Herzegovina, People’s Republic of China, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Republic of Montenegro, Morocco, Peru, Republic of Serbia, Thailand, and Tunisia with service or diplomatic passports
• Egyptian and Turkish citizens with special, diplomatic, or service passports
• Citizens of Ecuador, Jamaica, Maldives, Republic of Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine with diplomatic passports
• Travelers with British passports which are endorsed:
• ‘British Overseas Territories Citizen’ that contain the label ‘right of residence’ issued by Great Britain, or ‘British Subject,’ which also includes Great Britain’s ‘right of residence’ mark
• Travelers with passports that are issued by Hong Kong (A Special Administrative Region of China) or Macao (A Special Administrative Region of China)
• People of Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Brazil, Brunei, Croatia, Chile, Canada, Costa Rica, the Republic of Korea, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Mauritius, Monaco, Mexico , Japan, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, San Marino, Seychelles, Singapore, St Kitts-Nevis, Uruguay, United States of America, Vatican City and Venezuela;

5. Citizens of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

6. Travelers staying for a duration not exceeding 90 days given that they are spouses and dependents of citizens of the European Economic Area and Switzerland living in a Member State of the European Economic Area or in Switzerland and holding a residency permit for family members granted by a Member State of the European Economic Area or by Switzerland, specifically indicating the relationship.

7. Travelers with a ‘Laissez-Passer,’ provided by the United Nations, while travelling on duty.

8. Travelers with a permanent or temporary residence permit, which is issued by Slovenia.

9. Travelers, regardless of nationality, with a residence permit that is issued by Monaco or one of the Schengen States.

10. Travelers with residence permits and travel papers that are issued by a European Union member state to recognized people without nationality or citizenship and refugees.

11. Travelers with British passports endorsed ‘British Citizen.’

12. Citizens of Albania, Cuba, and the Philippines with service or diplomatic passports staying for no more than three months.

TWOV (Transit without Visa):-

For travelers continuing their trip to a third world, TWOV is permissible; and

• holding tickets with confirmed reservations and other papers which are required for their next trip; and
• Arriving and departing from a country outside the Schengen region.

However, leaving the airport transit area is not allowed for those travelers.

a. TWOV facility does not apply to travelers with travel papers that are issued by Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Congo (Kinshasa), Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, and Sri Lanka, who must have a transit visa;

Exemptions:-

• Travelers with official, diplomatic, or service passports
• Foreign residents with a working or residence permit for Andorra, Canada, Japan, San Marino, or the United States of America
• Travelers with a visa for a European Economic Area member country, Andorra, Canada, Japan, Monaco, San Marino, or the United States of America.

Additional information:-

1. Students living in a Member State of the European Union, Liechtenstein or Switzerland and traveling as part of a school community from within the European Union, Liechtenstein or Switzerland, with the exception of their nationality, do not need a visa on condition that:

• Their names are stated on a ‘List of Travelers’ stamped by the school and certified by the concerned authority in their home country
• One of the teachers at that school accompanies the school party,

When the ‘List of Travelers’ is only stamped by the school and is neither authenticated by the concerned authority nor containing photos of the students, each student must carry his/her own document for travel and evidence of place of the residence.

2. Travelers are advised to have all necessary documents for their next trip and enough money to cover the expenses of their visit (for adults: at least EUR 70, for children aged less than 18 years old: EUR 35 or its equivalent in any hard currency for each day of stay), or either of them.

• Exemptions: The citizens of the member countries of the European Economic Region and Switzerland.

Information to know:-

If travelers do not abide by entry and transit rules, including forged papers, the transporting carrier will be required to pay fines ranging between EUR 900 and EUR 4,500 for each traveler. The traveler may be delayed for an indefinite period or be deported from the country of entry. Moreover, any detention costs will be paid by the transporting carrier.

CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE

Import regulations:-

1. Travelers arriving with goods bought within the European Union for personal use only are allowed free import of:

• Travelers aged 17 years old and more are allowed 800 cigarettes; 400 cigarillos each weighing no more than three grams; 200 cigars; one kilogram of smoking tobacco
• Travelers aged 17 years old and more are allowed 10 liters of alcoholic drinks over 22%; 20 liters of alcoholic drinks less than 22%; 90 liters of wine but no more than limit of 60 liters of sparkling wine; 110 liters of beer.

2. Travelers arriving from non-European Union countries including the Aland Islands, Canary Islands, Channel Islands, and other similar regions are allowed free import of:

• Travelers aged 17 years old and more are allowed 200 cigarettes; 100 cigarillos each weighing no more than three grams; 50 cigars; 250 grams of smoking tobacco; or a proportional mixture of these products.
• Travelers aged 17 years old and more are allowed one liter of alcoholic drinks over 22% volume; non-denatured ethyl alcohol with more than 80% volume; two liters of alcoholic drinks or aperitifs made of wine or similar drinks less than 22% volume; sparkling wines or liqueur wines; or a proportional mixture of these products, in addition to four liters of still wine; and 16 liters of beer;
• Medicines for personal use only.
• Air travelers are allowed other goods up to a total value of EUR 430 per adult travelers.

3. Prohibited Goods:

Animal products not originating in a Member State of the European Union, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino or Switzerland cannot be imported into a Member State of the European Union, with the exception of limited amounts from Andorra, Croatia, the Faeroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland and small quantities of particular products from other countries. 

Export regulations:-

There are no restrictions on exporting any items for personal use. An export license issued by the Ministry of Culture is required for the export of cultural articles (ethnography, artworks, archaeology, etc.).

Crew Members customs regulations:-

There are no restrictions on importing the following:

• alcoholic drinks: one liter of still wine and 1/4 liter of spirits.
• tobacco products: 5 cigars, or 25 cigarettes, or 250 grams of smoking tobacco, or ten cigarillos, or a proportional mixture of these products.
• Other articles which are not intended for trade aims, not exceeding the worth of EUR 20.

Pets:-

The special regulation (EC no. 998 of 2003) of the European Parliament and of the European Council relates to the import of dogs and cats. Pet animals may enter the cabin as cargo or as traveler’s checked luggage.

Baggage Clearance regulations:-

A traveler’s luggage should be cleared at the destination airport in Slovenia.

Exception: Luggage of transit travelers whose destination is outside Slovenia and luggage of travelers departing from another European Union country.

Airport tax:-

When leaving the airport, all passengers are not allowed to pay any airport tax.

Currency Import regulations:-

Importing local currency is not prohibited. Sums in excess of EUR 13,500 must be registered to customs.

Currency Export regulations:-

There is no local currency (Euro) export limits. Sums that are higher than EUR 13,500 must be declared to customs.

Additional Information on regulations:-

1. Drugs: it is possible to import narcotic drugs only with a permit.

2. The importation of meat and meat products, milk products is prohibited except if the traveler has the proper veterinary documents. It is important to declare articles upon arrival for veterinary control.

Exemptions:-

• Shipments from Andorra, Norway, and San Marino.
• Products are entering the European Union from the Faeroes Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland.
• Infant food powered infant milk and special foods that are needed for medical reasons so long as their quantity does not exceed the amount that could be consumed by an individual.
