Overview of Jordan Visa and Foreign Exchange Policy

IMMIGRATION AND VISAS

Passport Requirements:

All travelers are expected to have a passport, except as follows:

1. Citizens of Belgium, Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Cyprus, Finland, Germany, Greece, France, Hungary, Latvia, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Poland, Slovak Republic, Spain, Slovenia, or Sweden may enter with a National ID Card if they are traveling from Brussels to Aqaba on a charter flight. Their documents are sent at least 24 hours before arrival to the Immigration Authorities in Aqaba.

2. Travelers with a ‘Laissez Passer’ issued to Palestinians by Algeria, Egypt, Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Somalia, Syria, Tunisia, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, and the Yemen Republic provided they have

• A return or onward ticket
• A re-entry permit or residence visa from the home country or a visa for the country of onward travel
• An entry visa
• An approval letter from the Jordanian Ministry of Interior

3. Travelers with a ‘Laissez Passer’ issued by the United Nations provided they have prior permission issued by the Jordanian Ministry of Interior.

4. Travelers with a Seaman Book as long as they are traveling on duty.

5. Travelers with ‘Kinderausweis,’ a German identity document issued to children provided the document contains a child’s photo.

6. Travelers with travel documents/passport issued by the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo to Kosovo’s permanent inhabitants.

Document Validity

Passports and alternative papers, or either of them, must be valid for at least six months after the date of arrival.

• Expired passports for no more than five years issued to citizens of Jordan are accepted.
• Residents of Jordan may enter with travel documents valid on arrival.

Additional information

1. Travelers with Kuwaiti passports/travel passports issued according to Article 17 are not accepted.

2. Citizens of Yemen Republic with passports/travel passports issued by the Democratic Republic of Yemen are denied entry and not allowed transit into Jordan.

3. Travelers born in the Gaza Strip holding Palestinian passports issued by the Palestinian authority are not allowed entry or transit into Jordan.

Exemptions:

Travelers entering Jordan with:

• A permit issued by the Jordanian consulate at Gaza
• Israeli re-entry authorization or Israeli Identification Card;
• A residency permits a country or territory other than the Gaza Strip and returns to that country or area.

Visa Issuance

1. before arrival: Travelers are kindly requested to contact the nearest representation of Jordan.

2. On arrival: A visa can be obtained if necessary on arrival at the airport at no charge; extension of visa can be obtained at the nearest police station for:

• The individual from Algeria, Japan, Libya, and South Africa;

• Travelers with passports/travel documents issued by Hong Kong (A Special Administrative Region of China).

3. On arrival: Citizens of Morocco can obtain a visa on arrival at the airport at no charge; extension of visa can be obtained at the nearest police station. However, females between the ages of 17 and 35 years old require approval obtained in advance from the Ministry of Interior except:

• Whether husbands, fathers, or brothers follow them.
• Whether they are part of the official delegation;
• when they’re the daughters of high-level workers.

4. Upon arrival: a visa can be issued upon arrival at the airport with a cost of JOD 10 for a single entry or transit visa; or without charge for international tourist groups presented:

• The tour is arranged and guaranteed by a licensed Jordanian tourist or travel agency; and
• The group contains no less than five people;
• They have separate passports;
• They are staying in Jordan for at least two nights; and
• They have a return ticket.

Citizens of the following countries: Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Albania, Belize, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Benin Rep., Cameroon, Burundi, The Republic of Central Africa, Colombia, Congo (Brazzaville), Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Cuba, Djibouti, Congo (Kinshasa), Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Eritrea, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Guinea, Iran, Laos, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Madagascar, Republic of Moldova, Mongolia, Namibia, Mozambique, Nepal, Pakistan, Niger, Papua New Guinea, Nigeria, Philippines, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Somalia, Sudan, Swaziland, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Togo, Vietnam or Zambia must always have a visa issued before arrival, but may apply for a visa on arrival only if they have official passports/travel document

This facility applies to citizens of India with ordinary passports and a residence permit for a country other than Lebanon, Syria, Yemen Republic, or one of the countries mentioned in the list above;

This facility applies to citizens of India with official passports;

This facility does not apply to people without nationality or citizenship;

This facility does not apply to travelers with travel documents issued by the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo to Kosovo’s permanent inhabitants.

On arrival: All travelers can obtain a visa on arrival if necessary if they are:

• Attending a scientific or economical conference
• Traveling as part of a tourist group with a Jordanian Travel or Tourist Agency.

On arrival: A visa will be issued on arrival for housemaids if they are traveling in their employer’s company.

On arrival: Citizens of Iraq can obtain a visa on arrival at the airport provided they have:

A residence permit for a country other than Lebanon, Syria, Yemen Republic, or one of the countries mentioned in the list above;

Diplomatic passports/travel document. This facility also applies to their family members against no charge;

Service passports against a fee of JOD 10;

Consular, official, or special passports so long as they are traveling on duty against a fee of JOD 10;

An official letter, sent to official delegates accessing or transiting Jordan, confirming attendance at conferences or workshops.

On arrival: Travelers with a ‘Laissez Passer’ issued by the Vatican City can obtain a visa on arrival at the airport against a fee of JOD 10 for a single entry or transit visa. An extension is possible at the nearest police station.

Multiple entry visas are not available at airports.

Visa Exemptions

All travelers must hold a visa except the following:

1. Citizens of Jordan.

2. Citizens of Lebanon staying for no more than three months.

3. Citizens of Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and the Yemen Republic staying for no more than one month; extension of visa can be obtained at the nearest police station.

4. Travelers with diplomatic passports except for citizens of Iraq.

5. Travelers with a residence permit and a re-entry permit, or either of them, issued by Jordan provided they have stayed outside Jordan for no more than six months.

6. Travelers with a ‘Laissez Passer’ issued by the United Nations provided they have prior permission issued by the Jordanian Ministry of Interior.

7. Travelers with Palestinian passports staying for no more than one month; extension of visa can be obtained at the nearest police station.

TWOV (Transit without Visa)

1. TWOV is permissible for travelers continuing their trip to a third country on the same or first connecting flight within 6 hours without leaving the airport, provided they have tickets with confirmed reservations and the necessary documents for their next trip.

Citizens of Iraq are allowed to TWOV at the responsibility of the transporting carrier.

Travelers leaving within 6 to 24 hours have to leave the airport, but their passports must be left at the immigration desk; the transporting carrier can arrange this.

2. Refugees and people without nationality or citizenship may TWOV at the responsibility of the transporting carrier and under its supervision.

Additional information

1. Due to the outbreak of swine flu (H1N1), all travelers arriving in Jordan from the United States of America are required to:

• Fill in arrival forms before going through the immigration control; and
• Be medically examined upon arrival.

2. Travelers transiting Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) to Aqaba or King Hussein International Airport (AQJ) must fill in their entry documents upon arrival at AMM.

3. Travelers must-have documents and tickets required for their next trip.

Government workers continuing to Iraq may not have onward or return tickets.

4. Citizens of Iraq must also have an ID-card and a Nationality Certificate.

Warnings

All travelers planning to stay in Jordan for more than 14 days have to be examined for AIDS; this examination must be carried out at the Directorate of Immigrant Health and Chest Related Diseases. However, this procedure does not apply to citizens of Jordan and travelers with diplomatic and service passports.

CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE

Export regulations

Travelers aged 18 years old or more are allowed free export of:

Two hundred grams of pipe tobacco; 25 cigars; or 200 cigarettes.

Usual cigars with a value of not more than JOD 20. and Cuban cigars with a value of not more than JOD 70.-

One liter of alcoholic drinks.

Gifts up to the value of JOD 200.

Prohibited: all forms of drugs and hazardous substances; guns and ammunition; obscene and other unethical videos, magazines, or recordings.

Pets

1. Cats and dogs

It must be followed by a veterinary welfare certificate and a rabies vaccine certificate. Pets are now permitted to enter as a traveler’s baggage, as a container ship, or in the cabin.

Birds

The import of birds and their products is prohibited unless approved by the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture. Health certificates are also needed in case of transit.

Baggage Clearance regulations

Baggage is resolved at the final destination airport in Jordan.

Exception:

Luggage of transit travelers whose destination is outside Jordan.

Airport tax

Upon leaving the airport, travelers are not expected to pay any airport fees.

Currency Import regulations

Local currency restrictions imposed (Jordan Dinar JOD) are not provided: up to JOD 15,000

a. It is not exchanged into foreign currency upon departing from Jordan;

b. It is not deposited to the account of a non-resident;

Import of the Israeli Sheqel is prohibited.

Currency Export regulations

• Local currency: (Jordan Dinar-JOD): unlimited
• foreign currency: up to the sum of money imported and declared
