A Complete Guide Visa for Honduras

IMMIGRATION AND VISAS

Passport Requirements:

All travelers except the following require a passport/travel document: 

1. Travelers with an authorization issued by a Honduran embassy abroad to citizens of Honduras.                                                                  

2. Travelers released by the United Nations with a ‘Laissez-Passer.’

3. Travelers with a ‘Laissez Passer’ issued by the European Commission.

4. Travelers with a Seaman Book provided they are traveling on duty.

5. Travelers with a re-entry permit or a special residence permit as well as a National Registration for Foreigners issued to refugees residing in Honduras.

6. Travelers with ‘Kinderausweis,’ a German Identity Card issued to children aged less than 16 years old.

Document Validity: 

Passports/travel documents and alternative papers, or either of them, must be valid for at least three months on arrival. 

• Citizens of Honduras may enter with passports that are valid on arrival.
• Residents of Honduras may enter with travel documents that are valid on arrival.

Minors: 

Travelers aged less than 21 years old are considered as children. The following rules apply to children who are citizens of Honduras or children of residents of Honduras departing from Honduras. 

• If they are traveling alone, children need a letter of approval that is authenticated in advance and signed by both parents and legal guardians.
• If they are traveling with only one parent, children need a letter of approval that is authenticated in advance and signed by the other parent or legal guardian. 
• In both cases, if the letter has been issued outside Honduras, it must be authenticated by the embassy or consulate of Honduras in that country.

Visa Issuance:

Before arrival: Travelers are kindly requested to contact the nearest representation of Honduras.

Visa Exemptions:

All travelers must hold a visa except the following:

1. Citizens of Honduras.

2. Travelers staying for no more than three months for tourism or business provided they are:

 Citizens of Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Antigua & Barbuda, Austria, Bahrain, Barbados, Bahamas, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Belize, Canada, Chile, Bulgaria, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Finland, France, Estonia, Fiji, Germany, Greece, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Guatemala, Hungary, Republic of Ireland, Israel, Iceland, Italy, Japan, India, Republic of Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Kuwait, Lithuania, Madagascar, Luxembourg, Malta, Marshall Islands, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Portugal, Qatar, Poland, Romania, San Marino, Russia, Sao Tome & Principe, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Saudi Arabia, Solomon Islands, Spain, St. Kitts-Nevis, South Africa, St. Lucia, Sweden, Switzerland, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, Tuvalu, Ukraine, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Vatican City, and Venezuela;

Travelers with British passports travel document with the exception of those endorsed ‘British National (Overseas).’ 

Travelers with Chinese Taipei passports/travel documents. 

Travelers with Palestinian Diplomatic passports/travel documents. 

3. Travelers are staying for no more than three months so long as they have diplomatic, official, or service passports and are citizens of Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Egypt, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Jordan, Kenya, Libya, Republic of Montenegro, Morocco, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Republic of Serbia, Suriname and Thailand. 

4. Travelers with a residence or return permit issued by Honduras to foreign residents. 

5. Travelers with a residence or return permit issued by El Salvador, Guatemala, or Nicaragua to foreign residents.

6. Travelers staying for no more than three months provided they are foreign residents of Antigua & Barbuda, Argentina, Andorra, Austria, Bahamas, Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Barbados, Belize, Brunei, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia, Canada, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Croatia, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Ecuador, Finland, Fiji, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, India, Italy, Republic of Korea, Japan, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Malaysia, Madagascar, Marshall Islands, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Norway, Paraguay, Portugal, Qatar, Poland, Romania, San Marino, Sao Tome & Principe, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, Singapore, South Africa, St. Kitts-Nevis, Spain, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Sweden, St. Lucia, Switzerland, Turkey, Tuvalu, Trinidad & Tobago, Ukraine, Uruguay, United States of America, United Arab Emirates, Vanuatu, Vatican City and Venezuela;

However, this does not apply to: 

Citizens of Afghanistan, Algeria, Albania, Angola, Bangladesh, Armenia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Botswana, the People’s Republic of China (including travelers with passports issued by Hong Kong and Macao), Congo (Brazzaville), Eritrea, Ethiopia, Congo (Kinshasa), Ghana, Iraq, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Iran, Laos, Liberia, Mali, Lebanon, Mongolia, Nepal, Nigeria, Mozambique, Oman, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Timor Leste, Sudan, Vietnam, and the Yemen Republic. 

Travelers with British passports endorsed ‘British National (Overseas)

Citizens of Cameroon, Haiti, Indonesia, Cuba, Kenya, Pakistan, Jordan, with normal passports/travel documents.

7. Travelers with a valid visa for Canada, the United States of America, or a Schengen member country.

However, this does not apply to:

Citizens of Afghanistan, Algeria, Albania, Armenia, Angola, Bangladesh, Botswana, the People’s Republic of China (including travelers with passports issued by Hong Kong and Macao), Bosnia Herzegovina, Congo (Kinshasa), Eritrea, Congo (Brazzaville), Ethiopia, Iran, Ghana, Iraq, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Lebanon, Laos, Liberia, Mongolia, Mali, Mozambique; Nepal, Oman, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Syria, Timor Leste, Sudan, Vietnam, and Yemen Republic;

Citizens of Cameroon, Haiti, Cuba, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Pakistan with normal passports/travel documents.

8. Travelers with a ‘Laissez Passer’ issued by the European Commission or the United Nations provided they are staying for no more than three months.

9. Travelers with official travel documents issued by the Organization of American States provided they are staying for no more than three months.

TWOV (Transit without Visa): 

There is no TWOV facility available in Honduras. Therefore, all travelers must obtain a transit visa if they originally require a visa to enter Honduras.

Additional information: 

1. An authorized visa is required for citizens of Afghanistan, Algeria, Albania, Angola, Bangladesh, Armenia, Bosnia Herzegovina, the People’s Republic of China (including travelers with passports issued by Hong Kong and Macao), Botswana, Congo (Brazzaville), Eritrea, Congo (Kinshasa), Ethiopia, Iran, Ghana, Iraq, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Lebanon, Laos, Liberia, Mali, Mongolia, Libya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Oman, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Somalia, Syria, Timor Leste, Vietnam or the Yemen Republic. However, if such travelers are staying for more than 48 hours, they must report to the Department of Public Security. 

2. An authorized visa is required for Citizens of Cameroon, Haiti, Cuba, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, and Pakistan with normal passports. However, if such travelers are staying for more than 48 hours, they must report to the Department of Public Security. 

Residents of Andorra, Argentina, Antigua & Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Austria, Bahrain, Barbados, Belize, Brazil, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Bulgaria, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Estonia, El Salvador, Finland, France, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Fiji, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, Greece, Iceland, Republic of Ireland, Italy, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Israel, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Latvia, Madagascar, Lithuania, Malta, Marshall Islands, Mexico, Malaysia, Monaco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Netherlands, Panama, Paraguay, Norway, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Portugal, Russia, Sao Tome & Principe, Saudi Arabia, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Slovak Republic, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, Spain, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Switzerland, Trinidad & Tobago, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, Tuvalu, United Arab Emirates, Vanuatu, Uruguay, United States of America, Vatican City and Venezuela, who have proof of their residence, only require a visa issued by a Honduran embassy. 

3. All travelers must have onward or return tickets and all necessary documents needed for their next trip: 

Citizens of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua may travel with single tickets.

4. Travelers with British passports/travel documents endorsed ‘British National (overseas)’ are required to have an authorized visa, and if they are staying for more than 48 hours, they must report to the Department of Public Security. 

Residents of Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Antigua & Barbuda, Austria, Bahrain, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Bahamas, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Brunei, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Colombia, Cyprus, Denmark, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Estonia, Ecuador, France, Fiji, Finland, Germany, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Guatemala, Hungary, Greece, Iceland, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Japan, India, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Latvia, Israel, Liechtenstein, Madagascar, Lithuania, Malta, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, Marshall Islands, New Zealand, Monaco, Nicaragua, Panama, Norway, Paraguay, Portugal, Qatar, Poland, Romania, San Marino, Russia, Sao Tome & Principe, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, St. Kitts-Nevis, South Africa, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Switzerland, Trinidad & Tobago, Sweden, Turkey, St. Lucia, Tuvalu, Spain, Ukraine, United, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, United States of America, Mexico, Vanuatu, Vatican City and Venezuela, who have proof of their residence, only require a visa issued by a Honduran embassy.

5. Visa extensions can be acquired at the Immigration Department for a fee that varies between USD 10 and USD 50.

Warnings: 

Travelers who do not respect entry or transit regulations will be denied entry and will be deported at the expense of the transporting carrier. Besides, the transporting carrier will have to pay a fine of USD 1,600 per each traveler.

CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE

Import regulations:

18 years of age or older travelers are allowed free import of: 

• A moderate quantity of personal-use perfume;
• One pound of tobacco, 100 cigars or 200 cigarettes;
• Gifts up to a total price of USD 50;
• Five liters of alcoholic (liquor) drinks.

Export regulations: 

There are no restrictions whatsoever on export.

Pets: 

Dogs and cats must be accompanied by a veterinarian health/medical certificate issued in the home country and an import permit from the General Department of Cattle breeding and Veterinary Services. Besides, dogs need an additional certificate of vaccination against rabies and distemper as well as hepatitis certificates. The entry permit can be taken care of upon arrival.

Baggage Clearance regulations: 

The luggage of a traveler should be cleared at the final destination airport in Honduras, provided that it is an international airport.

Airport tax: 

Upon boarding at the airport, no airport tax is imposed on passengers.

Currency Import regulations: 

There are no restrictions on importing local currency (Honduras Lempira-HNL) and foreign currencies.

Currency Export regulations: 

There are no restrictions on exporting local currency (Honduras Lempira-HNL) and foreign currencies, but US Dollars only are allowed up to the amount declared at customs on arrival.
