IMMIGRATION AND VISAS

Passport Requirements based on Chile visa policy

All travelers need a passport, with the exception of the following:

1. Chilean people who can enter Chile with any documentation of citizenship or without any documents whatsoever. However, travelers will be fingerprinted and checked by the Foreign Police for their nationality.

2. Travelers who arrive as visitors with a National ID card provided they are:

  • Argentine, Brazilian, Colombian, Ecuadorian, Paraguayan, and Uruguayan citizens;
  • Bolivian citizens only if they come directly from Bolivia;
  • Peruvian citizens if they come directly from Peru.

3. Identity certificates given to foreign citizens of Chile or Argentina if they are traveling from Argentina are as follows:

  • A card with identity;
  • A Definite Stay Permit Certificate;
  • Text of national identity.

Notes:

  • A traveler should have lived for at least two years in that country.
  • Such rules do not apply to Cuban citizens who are allowed to have a passport.
  • Exception: Colombian people who are supposed to live in the said country for at least five years.

4. ‘Laissez Passer’ travelers issued by the United Nations.

5. Travelers with an official document provided by the Organization of American States on Travel:

  • Chinese Taipei residents; and
  • Mexican and Peruvian citizens.

6. As long as they are traveling on service, travelers with a Seaman Book:

  • India’s people must have a passport.

7. ‘Kinderausweis’ travelers, the German identification document given to children. If children are under ten years of age, there is no need to include a picture of the child in the record.

8. Travelers with documents provided by countries with permanent residency for refugees and individuals without nationality or citizenship.

The validity of Documents:

On arrival, passports and alternative documents, or any of them, must be valid.

The Minors:

1. Children in Chile Arriving:

a. International children aged 18 years and younger arriving in Chile alone must have granted parental or guardian permission.

b. Children must have certified approval from the absent parent while traveling with one parent or one legal guardian.

c. If the child is admitted, legal approval from both parents, such as a court permit or a court order, is required.

2. Children from Chile Departing:

a. International children aged 18 years and younger living in Chile and traveling alone must have allowed parental or guardian permission.

b. Kids must have certified approval from the absent parent while traveling with one parent or one legal guardian.

c. If the child is admitted, legal approval from both parents, such as a court permit or a court order, is required.

3. Chile before leaving:

Chilean people under 18 and traveling alone must have granted permission from both parents, the legal guardian, or the authority concerned.

Issuance of Visa as per Chile visa policy:

Until arrival: Travelers are kindly asked to contact Chile’s nearest representative.

Exemptions from Visa based on Chile visa policy:

All travelers must hold a visa except the following:

1. Chile’s citizen.

2. Travelers are staying for no more than Ninety days provided they are citizens of  Argentina, Andorra, Austria, Brazil, Colombia, Belgium, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Hungary, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Montenegro, Netherlands (including passports that are issued in Netherlands Antilles), Nicaragua, Malta, Norway, Paraguay, Peru,  Panama, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Uruguay, Holy See, and Venezuela.

3. For residents of Albania and Mexico, travelers stay for no more than 90 days.

Additional Information:

Travelers with ordinary passports entering Chile for tourism must pay cash (USD) reciprocity fee by credit card or traveler’s cheque, provided that they are citizens of:

  • For a multiple entry receipt that is valid for 90 days, Albania: USD 30.
  • For a multiple entry receipt that is valid for 90 days, Australia: USD 61.
  • Canada: for a multiple entry receipt that is valid until the passport has expired, USD 132.
  • For a multiple entry receipt that is valid for 90 days, Mexico: USD 23.
  • United States of America: USD 131 for multiple receipts of entry valid until the passport has expired.

4. Travelers staying for no more than Ninety days for travelers with ordinary passports provided they are citizens of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Bulgaria, Estonia, Fiji, France, excluding French Polynesia, Grenada, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Iceland, Indonesia, Italy, Jamaica, Latvia, Lithuania, Mauritius, Monaco, New Zealand, San Marino, Slovakia, South Africa, Saint Lucia.

5. Travelers staying in Australia, Canada, and the United States of America for a period not exceeding 90 days for travelers with ordinary passports provided they are citizens of Australia, Canada, and the United States of America. 

Notes:

Travelers with ordinary passports entering Chile for tourism must pay cash (USD) reciprocity fee by credit card or traveler’s cheque, provided that they are citizens of:

  • For a multiple entry receipt that is valid for 90 days, Albania: USD 30.
  • For a multiple entry receipt that is valid for 90 days, Australia: USD 61.
  • Canada: for a multiple entry receipt that is valid until the passport has expired, USD 132.
  • For a multiple entry receipt that is valid for 90 days, Mexico: USD 23.
  • United States of America: USD 131 for multiple receipts of entry valid until the passport has expired.

6. Travelers staying for a period not exceeding 90 days for travelers with British passports, irrespective of the citizenship passport endorsement.

7. Travelers with passports issued by Hong Kong or passports issued by Macao are allowed to stay for no more than 90 days.

8. People of the Republic of Korea remain for 30 days.

9. Travelers with diplomatic, official, or service passports given to citizens of the People’s Republic of China, Chinese Taipei, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Philippines, Russia, Tunisia, and Tuvalu a stay of not more than 90 days on tourism. 

10. Diplomatic, official, service, or special passport travelers for the full length of their travel duties:

Exception:

  • People of Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Estonia, Fiji, France, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Iceland, Indonesia, Italy, Jamaica, Mauritius, Monaco, New Zealand, Latvia, Lithuania, San Marino, Slovakia, South Africa, St. Lucia.

11. Travelers with official or diplomatic passports given to Indian, Jamaican, and Vietnamese people who come for tourism and stay for no more than 90 days.

12. Travelers released by the Association of American States with an official travel document:

  • Taipei residents; and
  • Mexican and Peruvian people.

13. Argentine or Chilean International Residents with a Certificate of Definite Stay Permit.

14. Travelers with a Business Travel Card issued by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation shall indicate their return the validity of the card for travel to Chile.

15. Travelers with documents are issued to refugees and people without nationality or citizenship, provided such documents are issued by the member countries of the European Economic Area (EEA)with the exception of Andorra, French Polynesia, Antigua, and Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Fiji, Grenada, Croatia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, HongKong, Indonesia, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, Republic of Korea, Macao, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Monaco, Montenegro, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, San Marino, Serbia, Singapore, South Africa, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, USA, Uruguay, Holy See and Venezuela.

(Transit without Visa) TWOV:

TWOV is permitted for travelers to begin their journey to a third country within 24 hours because they have return tickets or onward tickets and do not leave the airport. No hotel accommodation is available at the airport. 

Additional Information:

Travelers have to have:

  1. The tourist card is valid for 90 days; it is possible to extend your stay. During the flight or upon arrival, tourist cards are given free of charge.
  2. This does not refer to travelers coming for tourism and carrying credit cards or enough money to purchase a ticket, but enough money for their stay and return or onward tickets.

Information to know:

At the airline’s cost, travelers who do not comply with entry or transit laws will be deported, and the airline will be required to pay a considerable fine.

Customs and Foreign Exchange:

Regulations for importation:

There are no limits on the following imports:

1. Regardless of the age of the traveler, infants usually do not count:

  • Fifty cigars, 50 huge cigars, 400 cigarettes, or 500 grams of pipe tobacco.

2. for personal usage only, a moderate quantity of perfume.

3. for travelers aged 18 years or older, two and a half liters of alcoholic beverages.

4. Gifts of up to USD 300 – or equal in amount.

Customs Regulations on crew members:

For crew members, the same rules apply as for regular travelers.

Pets:

A Certificate of Health provided by the public agency in the home country is required to bring dogs, cats, and birds. Dogs and cats need a supplementary rabies vaccine certificate provided by a public agency. The vaccine must be performed between one and 12 months before arrival or departure. Pets are allowed to enter as passenger baggage, as cargo, or in the cabin. Living animals need a sanitary certificate issued by the Agricultural Society to be transported to Easter Island.

Information to Know:

  • Animals may be held upon arrival and may be exterminated if travelers fail to comply with the specified laws.
  • There is no authorization for parrots to enter.

Regulations on Baggage Clearance:

  • A traveler’s luggage should be cleared at the first airport of entry in Chile and labeled accordingly.

Exception:

The baggage of transit passengers whose destination is outside Chile provided that the destination is marked.

Tax on Airports:

On their departure from the airport, travelers are not allowed to pay any airport fees.

Regulations on Currency Imports:

Local currency imports (Chilean Peso-CLP) and foreign currencies up to USD 10,000 are not limited. Sums greater than USD 10,000 must be declared, however.

Regulations on Currency Exports:

The export of local currency (Chilean Peso-CLP) and foreign currencies up to USD 10,000 are not restricted. Sums greater than USD 10,000 must be declared, however.

Other regulatory details:

1. Only certificates issued by the Department of Agriculture of the home country are authorized for eatable animal products, flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Transit travelers are not allowed to carry these items as carry-on baggage at Santiago airport.
