Austria Visa Policy Guidelines for all Travelers

IMMIGRATION AND VISAS

Passport specification as per visa requirement for Austria:-

All Travelers are expected to have a passport according to the visa requirement for Austria unless otherwise follows:

1. Travelers with a National Identity Card issued to Monaco, Switzerland, and European Economic Area member countries except for Denmark, Iceland, Republic of Ireland, Norway, and Great Britain).

2. Travelers with a Birth Certificate that is issued to German children by Italy and San Marino.

3. Travelers with a Laissez-Passer issued by the United Nations.

4. Travelers with Kinderausweis a German identity document that is issued to children.

5. Travelers with certificates that have been given to refugees and people without citizenship or nationality.

6. Travelers with travel documents issued by the United Nations Interim Administration in Kosovo to Kosovo’s permanent residents.

Document validity according to Austria Visa Policy:-

The passport is the primary visa requirement for Austria for travelers as per Austria Visa Policy. Passports and alternative papers, or either of them, must be valid on arrival.

• Expired passports for a maximum period of five years issued to citizens of Austria, Belgium, Croatia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, San Marino, Slovenia, Spain, and Switzerland are accepted.

Additional information for Austria Visa Policy:-

Students, rather than their ethnicity, living in a Member State of the European Union and traveling as part of a school community within the European Union, do not require a passport given which:

• Their names are indicated on the ‘List of Passengers’ stamped by the school. Accredited by the competent authority in their home country;
• The school party is joined by one of the school’s professors.

Notes:-

According to Austria Visa Policy, all European Union member countries do not issue this type of ‘List of Travelers’. Besides, the exemption will NOT apply to the ‘List of Travelers’ only stamped by the school without photos.

Visa Issuance based on Austria Visa Policy:-

1. Before arrival: Travelers are kindly requested to contact the nearest representation of Austria.

2. On arrival: A visa may be issued to citizens of Qatar, provided:

• They are coming for tourism; and
• A notification from the Vienna-based embassy of Qatar to the border police is required in advance.

Visa Exemptions based on Austria Visa Policy:-

All Travelers must hold a visa except the following as per Austria Visa Policy:

1. Citizens of Austria.

2. People of Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece.

3. Travelers with British passports endorsed ‘British Citizen or ‘British Overseas Territories Citizen or ‘British Subject,’ both contain the right of residence label issued by Great Britain.

4. Travelers with British passports endorsed ‘British Citizen or ‘British National (Overseas).’

5. Japanese Citizens staying for no more than six months.

6. A maximum visit of three months for the following Travelers:

• Individuals of Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Israel, Korea, Malaysia, Mauritius, Monaco, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, San Marino, Seychelles, Singapore, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Uruguay, Vatican City, Venezuela, and the United States of America.
• Travelers with passports issued by Hong Kong (A Special Administrative Region of China) or Macao (A Special Administrative Region of China)
• Citizens of Mexico with ordinary passports
• Citizens of Mexico with official, striking, consular, or diplomatic passports
• Travelers with diplomatic passports, Albania, Herzegovina, Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia, Republic of Moldova, Republic of Montenegro, Russia, Republic of Serbia, and Ukraine
• Travelers with diplomatic or service passports, Bolivia, Cote d’Ivoire, Indonesia, Iran, Maldives, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Trinidad & Tobago, and Tunisia
• Travelers with official or diplomatic passports who are citizens of Thailand
• Travelers with diplomatic, official, or service passports, who are citizens of South Africa
• Travelers with diplomatic, service or special passports are citizens of Colombia, Jamaica, and Turkey.

7. Travelers with a Residence Permit issued by Monaco or one of the Schengen Member States.

8. Travelers with a Laissez-Passer issued by the United Nations.

9. Travelers, apart from their nationality, have a ‘family member’ residence permit issued by a European Union member country to a family member of a European Economic Area citizen or a citizen of Switzerland, provided they are traveling with or joining that family member.

10. Residents of Lichtenstein, apart from their nationality, have documents of their residence for a maximum period of five days, so long as the traveler is in transit through the Schengen Area. They are continuing their journey to a country outside the Schengen Area regardless of the means of transport. 

11. A maximum visit of three months to those with a travel document and residence permit issued by a European Union member country (not including the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom), Iceland, Norway, or Switzerland, to certified refugees and people without nationality or citizenship.

TWOV (Transit without Visa):-

TWOV is permissible for Travelers continuing their trip to a third country according to Austria Visa Policy, provided:

1. They do not exit the transfer area at the airport;
2. They travel from/to a non-Schengen nation and depart; and
3. They hold tickets with confirmed reservations and other necessary documents for their next trip.

Exception:-

It does not apply to Bangladesh, Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Liberia, Nigeria, Ghana, Pakistan, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. They need a transit visa except if they hold a residence permit for Japan, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Ireland, Andorra, Romania, San Marino, USA, U.K., or Vatican City.

Additional information:-

1. All travelers may enter Austria with a single ticket, except • Citizens of the member countries of the European Economic Area and Switzerland, if they have sufficient money to purchase or return tickets and arrange their visit.

2. Students living in a Member State of the European Union and participating as part of a school group within the European Union, rather than their race, do not need a visa:

• Their names are stated in the ‘List of Travelers’ stamped by the school. They are certified by the proper authority in charge in their home country; and
• The school party is joined by one of the school’s teachers.

3. If applicable, the maximum period of visit allowed under visa exemptions applies in any six months.

CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE

Import regulations as per Austria Visa Policy:-

     1. Travelers arriving with goods bought inside the European Union for personal use only are allowed free import of:

a. Tobacco goods for passengers 17 years of age and older:

• One kilogram of smoking tobacco;
• 800 cigarettes; or
• 200 cigars; or
• Four hundred small cigars whose weight does not exceed three grams for each.

b. Alcoholic drinks for passengers aged 17 years or older: 10 liters of alcoholic beverages above 22%; 20 liters of alcoholic beverages above 22%; 90 liters of wine above 60 liters of sauvignon blanc; 110 liters of beer.

2. Travelers arriving from non-European Union countries, including Channel Islands, Aland Island, Canary Islands, and other similar areas, are allowed free import of:

a. Nicotine goods for passengers 17 years of age and older:

• 250 grams of tobacco;
• 200 cigarettes; or
• 50 cigars; or
• One hundred small cigars whose weight does not exceed three grams for each.

b. Alcoholic beverages, for foreign visitors aged 17 years or older:

• One liter of alcoholic drinks over 22% volume, or non-denatured ethyl alcohol with more than 80% volume; or
• Two liters of alcoholic drinks or wine aperitifs or similar drinks less than 22% volume, or sparking wines; or
• A proportional mixture of such products; and besides
• Four liters of wine; and
• 16 liters of beer.

c. Medicines required for personal use;

d. Air Travelers are allowed other commodities up to a total value of EU 430 per traveler or EUR 150 per Travelers aged less than 15 years old.

3. Prohibited goods:

Animal products not originating in a Member State of the EU, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino, or Switzerland, cannot be imported into a Member State of the EU, except for small quantities of products originating in Andorra, Croatia, the Faeroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland and small quantities of products originating in other countries.

Export regulations as per Austria Visa Policy:-

Travelers are allowed free export of:

• Two hundred cigars or 1000 cigarettes or one kilogram of tobacco.
• One opened bottle or a quarter of a liter of perfume.
• Unlimited alcoholic drinks.

Crew Members customs regulations:-

As for ordinary passengers, the same Austria Visa Policy applies to crew members.

Pets:-

Travelers should stick to specific rules No. 998 of 2003 issued by the European Parliament and the European Council to bring in cats and dogs. Moreover, a serological test for rabies is not required for pets coming from the following countries:

Aruba, Ascension Islands, Australia, Bahrain, Barbados, Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands, Croatia, Falkland Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Jamaica, Japan, Mauritius, Mayotte, Monaco, Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda, Netherlands Antilles, New Caledonia, and New Zealand.

Singapore, St. Helena, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Pierre & Miquelon, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, USA, Vanuatu and Wallis Islands & Futuna Islands. Pets are allowed to enter as traveler’s checked luggage, as cargo, or in the cabin.

Baggage Clearance regulations as per Austria Visa Policy:-

A traveler’s luggage should be cleared at the final destination airport in Austria.

Exemption: Luggage of transit Travelers whose destination is outside of Austria.

Airport tax as per Austria Visa Policy:-

Upon leaving the airport, travelers are not obliged to pay any airport tax as per Austria Visa Policy.

Currency Import regulations as per Austria Visa Policy:-

Common currency (Euro-EUR) and foreign currency: no limits on arrival or movement to another E.U. Member State. When coming directly from or moving to a country outside the E.U.: sums totaling EUR 10,000-or more or similar in another currency (including money order and checks of some kind) must be declared.

Currency Export regulations as per Austria Visa Policy:-

When coming directly from or moving to a country outside the E.U.: sums totaling EUR 10,000 -or more or similar in another currency (including money order and checks of some kind) must be declared.

Arms and Ammunition regulations as per Austria Visa Policy:-

1. Travelers have to declare hunting trophies at customs at the port of entry. Rules for Importing Firearms:

a. Travelers from a European Union country: a European Firearms Pass and a weapons permit are required. Hunters and sharpshooters require only the European Firearms Pass when they are carrying no more than three weapons. However, this rule does not apply to handguns that hunters carry.

b. Travelers from a non-European Union country:

• Austria’s residents can only import weapons if they can show their weapons pass or card of weapon ownership to customs officials.
• Non-residents of Austria are expected to receive authorization in compliance with section 39 of the Austrian insulin sensitivity from an official representative of Austria overseas.

2. Importation of dangerous weapons such as knuckle-dusters or pump guns is prohibited.
