According to CDC data, Covid-19 in Vietnam is now at the 3rd Level. The high level of COVID-19 transmission is in Vietnam. Vietnam opens partially for foreign citizens with valid residence permits and visas.
Vietnam government announces the reduction of the quarantine period. The quarantine period of fully vaccinated foreign nationals’ arrivals and F1 visa holders have been reduced to 7 days. Phu Quoc Island and Khanh Hoa (southern central province) will be the first destination to reopen to foreign visitors on a trial basis from November 2021 to March 2022.

Travel Ban
Fully vaccinated travellers can enter Vietnam with a proper visa and COVID-19 test result. Only two provinces are opened in Vietnam on a pilot basis.
Covid Vaccine for Travel
Before going to Vietnam, make sure you are completely immunized. Unvaccinated visitors should avoid visiting Vietnam unless it is necessary. Vietnam accepts COVID-19 vaccination certificates from 72 countries, including the U.S. Please see the countries list here.
Mandatory Covid Test
Travelers must have a COVID-19 RT-PCR test result that is negative. You must take the test before 1 day of arriving in Vietnam. Children between the ages of 2 and 17 are also subject to this testing requirement.

Quarantine Details
Fully Vaccinated Travels:
According to the Vietnam Ministry of Health’s latest guidance, the quarantine period for foreign visitors will be reduced to 7 days. Subsequently, travellers will be subjected to self-quarantine for another 7 days at home or residence.
Not Fully Vaccinated:
According to the Vietnam Ministry of Health’s latest guidance, the quarantine period for non-vaccinated visitors will be 14 days. The mentioned people will be subjected to medical surveillance at home or residence for another 14 days after finishing the 14-day quarantine. Foreign immigrants who stay in Vietnam for less than 14 days are exempt from the aforementioned restriction. Other situations are indicated by the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health.
Covid Test at Airport
Only the negative report for the COVID-19 (coronavirus) nucleic acid RT-PCR Test is accepted.
Please make sure that your test certificate indicates the applicant’s name, date of birthday, report date, type of test, and the result, and name of the contact data of the testing agency.
Returning from Vietnam, Things to Know
Travel Restrictions
Citizens and permanent residents of the U.S. and certain family members and others who meet specific exceptions will be allowed to enter the United States.
Non-US citizens and non-residents who have spent 14 days in high-risk countries cannot enter the U.S.
Mandatory Covid Test
Before boarding the flight to the U.S., you must present one of the following documents:
- If you are fully vaccinated: negative COVID-19 test result and proof of vaccination obtained no more than three days before departure.
- If you have not been fully immunized: A negative COVID-19 test result was obtained no more than one day before travel.
The list of centres and hospitals in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City offers voluntary SARS-CoV-2 testing to travellers leaving Vietnam. In most cases, SARS-CoV-2 test results are available within 24 hours.

Before boarding flights to the U.S., all air passengers will be required to provide contact information to airlines.

Mandatory Quarantine and Testing
All Travelers:
- 3–5 days after your trip, get a COVID-19 viral test.
- Self-monitor for any COVID-19 symptoms; isolate and test if symptoms appear.
- After your trip, make sure to follow all state and local recommendations or requirements.
Not Fully Vaccinated:
In addition to the recommendations mentioned above, not fully vaccinated travellers should follow,
- Stay at home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after returning from your trip, even if you test negative after 3–5 days.
- If you are not tested for COVID, you should return home and self-quarantine for 10 days after your trip.
