Before Your Travel Plan to India, Hints to know?


Travel Banned

US citizens are permitted to enter India. Travel to India for leisure and other short-term reasons restarted fully on November 15 for persons with tourist or e-tourist visas obtained on or after October 6, 2021.

Tourist visas granted before October 20, 2021, will not be accepted, and tourists seeking to enter India with one of these visas will most likely be stopped and deported to their point of origin.


Covid Vaccine for Travel

Do not travel internationally until you have had all of your vaccinations. If you are not fully vaccinated for Covid, there are additional precautions you should take before, during, and after your trip.


Mandatory Covid Test

All overseas visitors arriving in India, irrespective of vaccination status, must upload a negative RT-PCR report taken within 72 hours of the beginning of their trip to the Air Suvidha portal.

Further testing at entry/quarantine may be required according to nationality or country of embarkation/transit; further testing at entry/quarantine may be required.


Self-declaration form to submit

All overseas travelers must go to in/airsuvidha/allairports and fill out a self-declaration form at least 72 hours before their flight to India.

Travelers who have been completely vaccinated and want to take advantage of quarantine exemptions must additionally upload a vaccination certificate copy to the Air Suvidha Portal.


Things to do in India while arriving


Quarantine Required

If they test negative upon arrival, US citizens are coming from or transiting through “Countries At Risk” will be required to stay at home for at least seven (7) days. Any US person who tests positive for COVID-19 or has a fever during thermal screening will be placed in institutional quarantine.

Some states demand pre-arrival testing and/or quarantine for all visitors outside their boundaries.


Covid Test at Airport

Travelers arriving from or transiting through “Countries At-Risk” locations will be retested upon arrival. They will not be allowed to leave the airport or connect to connecting flights until a negative test result is confirmed.

Travelers who choose the Rapid test will be charged 3500 INR and would have to wait up to 1.5 hours after landing to depart.

Travelers who choose to take a PCR test will be charged 500 INR and may have to wait up to 5 hours after landing to depart.


Returning from India, Facts to Know


Specific Contact Information

Before boarding flights to the USA, all air passengers are also obliged to give contact details to airlines.

This improves an already-in-place travel strategy for quickly identifying and contacting people in the United States who may have been infected with an infectious disease, such as COVID-19.


Mandatory COVID Test

Effective December 6, 2021, all international air passengers 2 years or older boarding a flight to the United States, including US citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents, will be required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 viral test administered within one (1) day of their flight, irrespective of vaccination status.

Mandatory Quarantine

Remain at home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel if you are not fully vaccinated, even if you test negative after 3–5 days. Stay home and isolate yourself for 10 days following your trip if you are not tested.


Covid Test

You may have come into contact with Covid throughout your travels. You may feel OK and have no symptoms, yet you might still be infected and transfer the virus to others. As a result, the CDC advises getting tested with a COVID-19 viral test 3–5 days after travel.
