- The claimant or their minor child seeks immediate medical attention.
- A student or exchange visitor (F/ M/J) visa applicant whose I-20 or DS-2019 has a start date is earlier than the first visa appointment available.
- An unforeseen need to fly to the United States within ten days of the first available visa appointment for urgent business purposes.
- An unexpected visit of significant cultural, political, journalistic, sporting, or economic significance takes place ten days after the first visa appointment has been made available.
How can I reschedule an appointment or cancel one?
You may cancel an appointment or reschedule it only if the appointment date is in the future. To cancel or reschedule an appointment, you must log in to the system and click ‘Continue’ to select ‘Cancel Appointment’ or ‘Reschedule Appointment’ and then follow the instructions given.
If I skipped my interview, what would I do?
If you have missed your appointment for an interview, you must sign in to your account, click on “Continue” and select the link “Missed my appointment” and follow the instructions. Please note that applicants must wait 24 hours to seek permission for a missed appointment to be rescheduled.
For a scheduled group appointment, how do I add or change members?
If you wish to add or alter group members after an appointment has been scheduled, you need to cancel your group appointment, add or change group members, and then reschedule your group appointment.
Please note, there is no assurance that you will be able to arrange the same date and time as originally planned, depending on the calendar availability.
Who is permitted to accompany me to the visa interview?
In general, entry into the Consular Section is only approved for visa applicants with scheduled appointments. Accompanying minor children is approved by parents or legal guardians.

Additional requested documentation for an in-person interview, for example, can contain evidence of:
- Your trip’s intent
- Your plan after your trip to leave the United States; and
- Your willingness to pay for all your travel expenses.
- To demonstrate the meaning of your trip and your plan to return to your home country, proof of your jobs and family relations may be appropriate.
- If you cannot cover all the expenses for your trip, you will show proof that another person will cover some or all of your trip expenses.
