Nigerian residents need a visa to go to the UK if they travel for education, tourism, business, or live and work.

For every UK visa, you will require specific documents. Depending on the type of visas you’re applying for, you will need to collect all of these documents. You must submit them on the day of your interview.

Make sure the documents required for UK visa you are applying for complying with the criteria set by the UK Office.

Two Photographs:

These photos should be taken within the last six months and in color.

UK Visa Photo Requirements:

Your UK visa photo must be in:

  • Taken within six months.
  • A portrait that is in contrast to the background.
  • Frame the photo to be till the upper shoulders.
  • Do not blur, line, or mark.
  • On a clear base cream or light gray background.
  • No watermarks or Crinkles.
  • Both eyes should be visible and open.
  • The face should be fully visible
  • Make sure to be in a proper posture.
  • They are positioning the face forward.
  • There should be no writing on the front / backside unless required.
  • The head should be uncovered: Except for medical or religious matters.
  • Maintaining a neutral facial expression: No smiles, no wrinkles.
  • Your face must be seen in uniform brightness. No Shadows on the face or behind.
  • Transparent portrait without reflection or glass brightness.
  • No “red-eye effect” from the camera flash.
  • One portrait at a time: Two persons or other objects are not allowed in a photo.
  • Printed in a white high-quality low and medium matt or gloss photographic paper, in color.

Valid Passport:

It is valid for three more months after the date you plan to leave the UK after your trip. It must have one empty page for the UK visa.

Evidence of financial means to cover the cost of living while in the UK:

The applicant’s bank statement for the last six months or payslips for the same period.

Accommodation proof:

You should need to submit a document showing where you will be accommodated while in the UK. You don’t have to pay in full for a hotel / hostel in the UK before getting a visa to get such a document.

Travel itinerary:

Submit a travel plan that provides all the information about how and what you plan to do in the UK. Include travel dates, places you will visit, meeting schedule, booked tour, festival schedule, etc.

Tuberculosis test results:

Citizens of certain countries must submit a TB test to qualify for a Britain visa.

Biometric information:

If you are applying for a Britain visa that allows you to stay in Britain for above than six months, you’ll need to submit your biometric information. This includes your fingerprints and a digital photo taken at the appropriate application center.

UK Visa Invitation Letter (If applicable):

If you’re staying with a family member or friend, you will need to submit an invitation letter. Your host must be a UK citizen or legal resident.

UK visa fee paid:

You will need to submit a receipt confirming that you have paid the visa fee as required.

Additional UK visa requirements according to Employment status:

You will need to submit additional documents according to your work status, as follows:

If you employed:

A letter from your employer. This letter should confirm your position in your job, your salary, and your length of work.

If you are self-employed:

Proof of Business registration:

They must confirm the name of the business owner and the date on which the business began to trade.

If you are a student:

Have a letter from your education provider. The letter will confirm your admission and leave.

Additional UK visa requirements for applicants below the age of 18:

Applicants under the age of 18 must submit some additional documents. These documents are as follows:

  • Birth certificate.
  • Adoption documents (if applicable).

If the travel is unaccompanied or with anyone other than parents (s):

  • The letter signed (signed) with the parents confirms the details of those who come with the child.
  • A copy of the parent(s) / legal guardian’s biographical page of their passport.

Documents to be issued at the UK entry port:

At the UK entry port, you have to show some documents to the Border Control Police.

If you are an EU / EEA citizen, you can use the EU / EEA Channel to verify your documents. You need your ID or passport. Adults must come with children 17 years of age and younger.

Non-EU / EEA nationals will need the following documents when displaying at the UK entry port:

  • Valid Passport.
  • Landing Card. You will get this from your carrier. You need to fill it in prior your reach the border control.
  • Visa (if applicable).

UK visa rejection due to documents:

  • Submission of false documents.
  • The applicant has received a deportation order.
  • Detention of criminal documents.
  • Not enough money.
  • Overstaying a before visit to the United Kingdom.
  • Submission of fraudulent documents on previous UK trip.
  • If requirements are not met.
  • Lack of valid passport / travel documents.
  • Invalid answer for wanting to visit the United Kingdom
  • The applicant was convicted of an offense punished by imprisonment for four years or more.
