IMMIGRATION AND VISAS

Passport Requirements

All travelers are expected to have a passport, except as follows based on Lesotho visa policy:

1. Travelers with travel documents known as ‘Titre de Voyage’ issued to refugees according to the Geneva Convention of 1951.

2. Travelers with documents for people without nationality or citizenship issued by the United Nations.

Document Validity

On arrival, passports and alternate documents, or any of them, must be valid based on Lesotho visa policy.

Visa Exemptions

All travelers must hold a visa except the following according to Lesotho visa policy:

1. Citizens of Lesotho.

2. Travelers staying for no more than 14 days provided they are:

2.1. Citizens of Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Botswana, Brunei, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Finland, France, Gambia, Germany, Greece, Grenada, Guyana, Iceland, Republic of Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Kiribati, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Namibia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Portugal, Spain, Sri Lanka, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Switzerland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu, USA, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia, and Zimbabwe;

2.2. Travelers with British passports regardless of endorsement in passports concerning citizenship;

2.3. Travelers with passports issued by Hong Kong (A Special Administrative Region of China);

3. Passengers with a residence permit authorized to Lesotho.

Additional Information

1. Travelers must have enough money for their stay, return or onward tickets, and all necessary documents for their next trip.

2. Travelers with travel documents known as ‘Titre de Voyage’ must have return tickets or written proof of acceptance for resettlement.

3. Tourists intending to stay for longer than 14 days could file within the first 14 days for an extension with the Lesotho Immigration Authorities.

CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE

Import regulations

Travelers, regardless of age, are allowed free import of:

– 250 grams of tobacco, 20 cigars, and 200 cigarettes;

– Two liters of wine and one liter of alcoholic drinks. Citizens of South Africa are not allowed to import any alcoholic drinks;

– Perfume 50 milliliters and eau de toilette 250 milliliters

– Certain gift items up to a value of LSL 500.

If goods are re-imported, the traveler must show the DA65 form or the NEP form issued on departure.

Export regulations

Travelers are allowed free export of souvenirs and gifts up to a value of LSL 500.

Pets

Cats and dogs must be followed by a veterinary certificate of good health and a rabies vaccine certificate issued in the home country.

Baggage Clearance regulations

Airport authorities should clear a traveler’s luggage at the airport of the final destination in Lesotho.

Luggage of transit travelers whose destination is outside Lesotho

Airport tax

As per Lesotho visa policy, no airport tax is levied on passengers upon boarding at the airport.

Currency Import regulations

There have been no limits on the supply of local currency (Lesotho Loti-LSL) and foreign currency as per Lesotho visa policy.

Currency Export regulations

There are still no limits on the sale of local currency (Lesotho Loti-LSL) and foreign currency as per Lesotho visa policy.

Additional Information on regulations

All goods over LSL 5,000- must be declared in value by the passenger using Type SAD500. The SAD500 form must be authorized by the Customs Officer on duty at Foreign Departures on the day of departure. Only those items valued without serial numbers shall be deemed utilizing a NEP form to be collected, completed, and marked by any commercial bank.

The NEP form needs to be endorsed by the Customs Officer on duty at Overseas Departures on the day of departure. If the products are re-imported, the traveler must display the SAD500 or NEP-form issued at the departure time.

Wild fauna and fauna:

Imports of some endangered species of plants, live animals, and their goods are banned or limited by CITES.

Import permits can be issued from the Ministry of Agriculture.
