IMMIGRATION AND VISAS

Passport Requirements

All travelers are expected to have a passport, except as follows:

1. Travellers with a ‘Laissez Passer’ stating the duration of the visit.

2. Travellers with National Identity Cards issued to citizens of Gabon.

3. Travellers with a Seaman Book as long as they are traveling on duty.

4. Travellers with a travel document known as ‘Titre de Voyage’ issued by the United Nations to refugees and people without nationality or citizenship according to the Geneva Convention of 1951.

5. Safe Conduit.

Document Validity

Passports and alternative documents, or all of them, must be valid upon arrival.

Visa Issuance

Before arrival: Travelers are kindly requested to contact Gabon’s nearest representative.

Visa Exemptions

All travelers must hold a visa except the following:

1. Citizens of Gabon.

2. Citizens of South Africa.

3. Citizens of Morocco with diplomatic passports;

4. Foreign residents of Gabon provided they have a re-entry or exit permit.

5. People recruited by the Gabonese Government from abroad and their families. Such travelers must have a travel order and a transportation request issued by an office of Gabon’s Government.

TWOV (Transit Without Visa)

1. TWOV is not permissible for refugees and people without nationality or citizenship.

2. TWOV is permissible for travelers continuing their trip to a third country by the same or first connecting plane within 24 hours, provided they have tickets with reserved seats and other documents for their onward trip.

Travelers staying for the night will be allowed to leave the airport, but the immigration authorities will hold on to their passports until departure. However, this does not apply to the citizens of Lebanon.

3. TWOV is permissible for the following citizens only when they are departing by the same plane within 24 hours without leaving the airport; besides, they must have tickets with reserved seats and necessary documents for their onward trip:

Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, People’s Republic of China, Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Moldova, Mongolia, Republic of Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Republic of Serbia, Slovak Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

Additional information

1. Travellers must have:

– A hotel voucher or a letter of invitation issued by the sponsor; and

– Onward or return tickets; or

– An entry permit into Gabon issued before arrival by the General Department of Documentation and Immigration in Gabon. However, this does not apply to citizens of Gabon and South Africa.

2. Citizens of Lebanon, in addition to their visa, must have an entry permit into Gabon issued before arrival by the General Department of Documentation and Immigration in Gabon.

CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE

Import regulations

Travelers aged 17 years old or more are allowed free import of:

Five thousand grams of tobacco, 400 cigarettes or cigarillos, or 125 cigars or 5000 grams of tobacco;

N.B.

There are no limits on tobacco or tobacco products of Cameroon origin imported from Cameroon.

3 liters of wine or 1 liter of liqueur;

-maximum. 500 grams of the jewel;

-The personal effects.

Pets

For pets, passengers must have a rabies vaccine card or a veterinarian certificate issued by the home country less than three days before exit; dogs and cats less than three months of age are excluded from those credentials.

Baggage Clearance regulations

A traveler’s luggage should be cleared at the first airport of entry in Gabon.

Airport tax

Travelers are not allowed to pay any airport tax upon departure from the airport.

Currency Import regulations

There are no restrictions on importing local currency (CFA Franc-XAF) and foreign currencies provided the imported sums are declared on arrival.

Currency Export regulations

1. Residents:

– Holiday trips: Travelers are permitted to export local currency (CFA Franc-XAF) up to XAF 200,000 or international currency equal to XAF 200,000.

– Business trips: Visitors are allowed to export local currency XAF 25.000 a day with a cap of XAF 500.000 or foreign currency alternative.

N.B.

– A special authorization issued by the Minister of Economy and Finance is required.

– Exceptions can be obtained from the Department of Financial Foreign Affairs.

2. Non-residents:

Local currency: Travellers can export local currency up to XAF 200,000 or foreign currencies up to the equivalent of XAF 200,000 or up to the sums imported and declared.

Arms and Ammunition regulations

Import permits are required to transport arms and ammunition from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Libreville. The order should be made three months until the exit.

Wild Fauna and flora:

Imports of some endangered species of plants, live animals, and their goods are banned or limited by CITES.
