Covid-19 Travel Restrictions in Austria

Austria has opened its borders to travelers from the Schengen region, the United Kingdom, or from Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and the Vatican. However, travel from outside the EEA remains limited to non-EU / Schengen / Country or UK travelers, and flights from some areas remain suspended.

Austrian citizens, permanent residents, holders of D-visas, and EEA nationals, and members of their immediate families are still allowed to enter Austria. Diplomats, humanitarian aid staff, business passengers, healthcare personnel, and emergency/rescue/ambulance crew members can also reach the country, and the country may be transited by travelers with an immediate connecting flight.

For travelers who could enter the country, the Austrian Government has drawn up a list of areas to be at high risk for COVID-19. For a time not exceeding 4 days, anybody commuting from one of these areas to Austria must show a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 test result at the border in English, French, German or Italian.

An individual without a valid Austrian residence permit will be denied entry without this paper. Austrian residents without a valid medical certificate may enter the country, but 14 days of self-isolation will be necessary. Coronavirus examinations, which include a medical certificate, are available to travelers with a valid Austrian residence permit for EUR 190 on arrival at Vienna Airport.

For residents of Andorra, Belgium, Czech Republic, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Switzerland, San Marino, Slovakia, Spain, United Kingdom, or the Vatican who have spent the previous 14 days only in those countries and have not traveled anywhere, entry to Austria without the need for a medical certificate or quarantine is possible.
