Right now, travelers from the UAE who wish to visit a Schengen member country may do so without a Schengen visa. However, travel to the EU is set to change by the end of 2022. After that, all visa-exempt residents, including Emirati nationals, will be required to register for an ETIAS before entering any of the Schengen nations.

ETIAS Visa for Emiratis

The European Union authorities will have finalized the new travel authorization program known as ETIAS by late 2022. As a result, all individuals traveling to Europe with a United Arab Emirates passport, or any other 59 countries with a visa waiver deal with Europe, should have an approved European visa waiver.

Click2Visas keenly watches all the new implementations in the visa world, it adapts the new rules quickly, and makes it easier for our customers. So let’s see about ETIAS and how it is helpful for UAE people.

What is an ETIAS visa, and how it impacts Emiratis?

The European Travel Information and Authorization System, or ETIAS, is a visa waiver program developed for all ETIAS qualified countries, including the UAE.

ETIAS is presently under development while the necessary systems are being created to integrate with existing immigration databases and other security data systems. When ETIAS is fully operational, it will provide a streamlined screening and entry procedure for Emiratis visiting any Schengen countries.

Benefits of ETIAS for Emirati passport holders

The ETIAS travel authorization benefits UAE travelers in a variety of ways, including:

  • Simple to use.
  • Speedy approval — in most cases, within one business day, though some applications may need up to three business days.
  • There is no need to visit an Embassy or Consulate or stand in long queues.
  • Allows entry and travel among all EU member countries.
  • When visiting Schengen countries, you will have a more secure travel experience.

Schengen authorities implement the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) intending to strengthen and enhance internal security within member countries. Once ETIAS implementation is complete, travelers flying from the UAE to the Schengen Area will be pre-screened before boarding a flight to any member nation.

ETIAS’s pre-screening process will make visiting Schengen countries safer for both residents and tourists. Checking visa-exempt travelers against security databases before their trip and denying entry to those who may pose a danger to the well-being and safety of Schengen nations will be a massive benefit to EU and UAE citizens.

The ETIAS registration and verification process will provide Schengen authorities with a more comprehensive understanding of the identity of eligible visitors entering and exiting any member country.

What do UAE citizens need to visit Europe?

When the Europe visa waiver for Emirati citizens is implemented in late 2022, all travelers to Europe from the UAE will need to obtain an ETIAS travel authorization.

Getting an ETIAS from the UAE involves filling out a simple online application that takes no more than 10 minutes. Most ETIAS visa waiver applications are approved within one business day, though some may take up to three days.

The citizen will receive a digital copy of the ETIAS as soon as it is approved at the email given during the application process. When the citizen enters the Schengen Zone, they must present their valid Emirati passport at border control. The border guard will electronically scan the traveler’s UAE passport to determine whether or not the ETIAS is valid.

The border control procedure will be carried out if a valid travel authorization is present. If the traveler meets all of the entry requirements, they will be permitted to enter the Schengen area.

What countries can UAE nationals visit with an ETIAS?

UAE nationals can visit the below countries with an ETIAS,

Schengen Countries: Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Greece, Czech Republic, Malta.

Non-EU Member States: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland.

Micro-States de facto part of Schengen Region: Principality of Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City.

ETIAS Requirements for Emirati Citizens

Emirati passport holders will be required to provide the following ETIAS requirements before a European visa waiver from the UAE.

  • A present Emirati passport that is valid for at least three months.
  • Personal and contact information, including an email address, is required to receive the European visa waiver for the United Arab Emirates citizens.
  • You need to have a valid credit or debit card to pay the ETIAS fee.

What can UAE citizens do with an ETIAS?

Travelers with the European visa waiver for Emirati citizens can enter any of the Schengen countries covered by the ETIAS agreement for a maximum of 90 days in 180 days. This means that Emirati citizens with ETIAS can travel to any Schengen zone country without obtaining a visa. They can use this ETIAS for both business and tourism purposes.

Furthermore, Emirati ETIAS holders may stay in participating countries for up to 90 days in a row, after which they must remain outside the Schengen Area for the next 90 days. Then, ETIAS holders from the UAE will be granted an additional 90 consecutive days to spend in any member country.

The ETIAS visa waiver for Europe is valid for three years, as long as the passport in use is still valid. When either the citizen’s Emirati passport or the ETIAS visa waiver expires, the traveler must apply for an ETIAS renewal before returning to the Schengen Zone.

An approved ETIAS travel authorization allows Emirati citizens to enter the Schengen Zone multiple times. This means that any Emirati citizen with a valid ETIAS can visit Europe as many times as they want in the next three years, as long as they don’t stay for more than 90 days in the same 180-day period (and they have a valid passport).

FAQ about ETIAS for UAE nationals

1.      What will happen if my UAE passport expires but my ETIAS is still active?

Suppose an Emirati passport electronically linked to an approved ETIAS expires before the 3-year validity period of the travel authorization expires. In that case, the citizen must request a new travel authorization using the number of their new passport.

2.      How do UAE nationals with dual citizenship receive an ETIAS?

Nationals of the United Arab Emirates with dual nationality and have more than one valid passport must choose one to apply for the ETIAS travel authorization. In addition, Emiratis with dual citizenship must travel on the same passport used to apply for the ETIAS visa waiver.

3.      Can UAE passport holders work in EU countries with an ETIAS?

No, it does not.
